How many times have we Americans watched candidates over years asked questions and then they take the 3-second time frame to filter out whatevers in order to be politically correct to one societal segment or another?

But with Huckabee it’s that instant response. It’s wit. Or it’s knowledgeable explanation of an issue. But whatever it is it is “authentic,” the term reporters delight in referring to Huckabee’s sincerity.

Yes, Huckabee is The Outsider when it comes to the Washington clique. And that is exactly what attracts disenchanted Republicans, that is, the little people in particular. Further, it’s the little people who have the most votes when walking toward those all-important booths.

He is so pro-abortion he refused as an Illinois state senator to support legislation to protect babies who survived late-term abortions because he did not want to concede -- as he explained in a cold-blooded speech on the Illinois Senate floor -- that these babies, fully outside their mothers' wombs, with their hearts beating and lungs heaving, were in fact "persons."

"Standing before a banner reading 'Enough is Enough' and flanked by five large charts attacking the record of rival Mitt Romney, a haggard-looking Huckabee said that the fight to win Thursday's Republican caucus had gotten 'out of hand' and 'out of control' and that he would refrain from any more negative campaigning."

After spending the previous day making his own so-called attack commercial, Mike suddenly shifted strategy, as though he had been struck like St. Paul on the Road to Damascus and seen the light.

Mike is no St. Paul. He not only brazenly went about claiming great credit for his supposed conversion, but he actually proved that he had prepared his own attack commercial — BY SHOWING THE ATTACK COMMERCIAL HE HAD PRONOUNCED TOO NEGATIVE!

Huckabee is not the fiscal conservative the Republican establishment would like. Horror of horrors, he has actually advocated using tax dollars to help the poor. Huckabee, it seems, actually applied what the Gospels say about our responsibility to the poor and suffering to tax policy in Arkansas. On issues like HIV/AIDS, the plight of the inner city poor, and education, Huckabee’s positions are admittedly more center left than center right. And while he believes in securing the border, Huckabee reminds us that there is lady standing in New York Harbor with a torch raised high beckoning ”your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free” to come here, to the land of the free. Can we fault them when they actually do?

The Republican establishment has looked down its nose at social conservatives far too long, tolerating us because they need our votes. But now the tables are turned. The grass roots are looking up at the establishment with the will of a Lech Walesa, demanding that fiscal issues take a back seat to moral issues for a change. It’s long past time for the moral and social issues of our times to be given more than just lip service. It’s now time for our fiscal policies to be informed by our social policies rather than sacrificing our morality to our economic standing in the world.

MIKE HUCKABEE: Federal funding for embryonic. If people want to privately fund it, I think that that is certainly their right.

Mitt Romney — who by his own confession supported abortion since 1970, before Roe vs. Wade, and throughout his political career (right up until he decided to run for president) — has predicated his entire appeal to the pro-life base of the GOP on a recent supposed "conversion" to the pro-life cause that occurred while he was giving consideration to the use of embryonic stem cells for scientific experimentation.

All of this strains credulity, of course, especially since he continues, right up to this very day, to support the destruction of whichever nascent human beings he arbitrarily deems "unwanted."

It won’t help to insult those Huckabee loyalists by describing them as religious fanatics, or anti-Mormon bigots, or ignorant rubes, nor does it make sense to treat their candidate as some sort of embarrassment or a pariah. Huckabee served ten-and-a-half years as a successful and popular governor (including his experience as lieutenant governor, he boasts three times the service in public office as Romney, and considerably more time as an elected official than Thompson, Hillary, Edwards or Giuliani).

In this context, Romney’s propaganda slams Huckabee for supporting “amnesty for illegal aliens” --- without acknowledging that the former Arkansas Governor now supports an immigration plan even more unyieldingly hard-line than Romney’s (you can read all about it on Huckabee’s website). Governor Romney insists on his own right to change his mind on big issues (including abortion, gun control, gay rights, and even immigration—where as recently as 2006 he publicly supported a “path to legalization” that he now derides as “amnesty.”) If Romney wants people to focus on his current positions, not his past statements, then is it fair to deny the same consideration to Huckabee?

Mormons intend to take over the world according to a former teacher at BYU. “The Mormons do intend to take over the world….There is no secret about that—it’s in the writing of Joseph Smith right on down….The Constitution of the United States will ‘hang by a thread’ and the Church will save it by establishing a theocracy.” Michael Parrish, “The Saints Among Us,” Rocky Mountain Magazine, Jan-Feb., 1980, pp 17-32.

Furthermore, Apostle Bruce R. McConkie wrote, “The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as it is now constituted is the kingdom of God on earth….The Church is not a democracy…[but] a kingdom…and the President of the Church, the mouthpiece of God on earth, is the earthly king.” Mormon Doctrine, pp. 415-416

Now, are you ready for the question? “Mr. Romney, since your church clearly teaches that it will someday take over the U.S. and the world and set up a theocracy under Mormon control, will you today disagree, disavow, and disassociate yourself from that teaching and do everything within your power as President to oppose that purpose?”

My follow up question: “If you disagree, disavow, and dissociate yourself from that teaching, how can you stay a Mormon? Moreover, if you refuse to disassociate yourself from these teachings of your church, how can you expect any sane person to vote for you?”

But there are some Mormon teachings that demand an answer of a presidential candidate. Consider Mormon President Heber C. Kimball’s statement: “Learn to do as you are told, both old and young; learn to do as you are told for the future….If you are told by your leader to do a thing, do it. None of your business whether it is right or wrong.” No reporter in America has the courage to ask Romney if he is willing to repudiate that statement.

One of the most famous Mormon families, the Osmonds said, “We believe that we lived before coming to this earth” Of course that is nonsense but Americans have a right to choose nonsense as their religion.

Mormons also believe that God the Father was “once a mortal man.” Yes, even more nonsense.

Brigham Young, second president of the Mormons said, there is no salvation without accepting Joseph Smith and Smith must open the door for anyone to enter Heaven. More nonsense since Joe Smith is not even close to the door of Heaven, and Christ is that Door.

Joseph Smith believed that the Garden of Eden was located in Missouri and I will concur that Missouri is a beautiful state but it doesn’t have the Euphrates River running through it! Joe had more geographical problems when he declared that the moon is inhabited by people 6-feet tall who live a thousand years! Oh, yes, those “moonies” also dress like Quakers! I’m glad to know that.

Brigham Young continued to walk with Joe Smith down the Nonsense Path (and he convinced thinking people that his brain had been fried) when he taught that the sun is also inhabited! I don’t want someone in the White House who believes such nonsense.

Another Mormon teaching is that Elohim (God) came from the planet (or star!) Kolob to have sex with Mary who is one of his many wives for eternity.

Sure, all the above is nonsense but I would still like to hear what Romany believes about the above. Does he repudiate all or some of the above? Inquiring minds, not only bigots, want to know.

Last week Romney whined to NBC’s “Today” show, “I think attacking someone’s religion is really going too far. It’s just not the American way and I think people will reject that.” Is he saying that asking questions about what a candidate believes is an “attack” and out of bounds? Voters have every right, even a responsibility to find out what candidates believe because what a person believes will determine his or her actions.

I don’t mean to be offensive but if people only knew a few Mormon teachings, they would be angry, amazed, appalled—and scared.

The message driven home by hosts like Sean Hannity and Michael Medved was that Mormons are Christians too.

The only problem is, Mormons have far more in common with Muslims.

Mormons believe that Joseph Smith is the last chief prophet of God in the end times, come to restore the "true faith." Muslims believe that Mohammed is the last prophet.

Mormons believe that when you die, you get your own world, over which you reign as its god. Muslims believe that when you die, particularly in martyrdom, you get 72 virgins.

Mormons believe that Jesus was merely a spirit child, no more a son of God than any other Mormon believer. Likewise, to Muslims, Jesus was merely a prophet, lesser than Mohammed.

Joseph Smith espoused polygamy. Mohammed espoused polygamy.

The Mormon writings of Joseph Smith have been shown to be fraught with misquotes of the Judeo-Christian scriptures and history. The Koran is also full of similar mistakes, sharing with Mormonism an inherent ignorance of the faiths it claims to be built upon.

So why would any of this matter?

There's something altogether too slick about Mit Romney, something about him that is too rehearsed. Some have even called him phony.

Romney says that he has "evolvled" politically, in some cases just in time for this presidential election. From gay marriage, to government run healthcare, unfettered access to abortion, and porous borders, Romney has worked hard to convince the nation that his positions today are solidly conservative. He has courted the evangelical vote with the promise that he shares their political priorities. After all, his campaign insists, he's a Christian just like them.

The truth is, he isn't.

You see, conservative Christians have no problem at all voting for a Mormon, but not for a man who would deceive a nation by telling us that Mormons are Christians too.

And if a candidate and his campaign can work so deftly to deceive us on matters as important as faith, in what other ways is he willing to pull the wool over our eyes?

Giuliani unashamedly supports the killing of unborn babies by abortion; he has been a brazen supporter of special rights for homosexuals, including civil unions and 'homosexual marriage' in Massachusetts; he is a proven enemy of our God given right to self-defense, delineated in the Second Amendment.

Giuliani is a faithful practicing enemy of the Church. While he was Mayor of NYC, he revoked the Church's St. Patrick Day parade permit because the Church would not allow homosexual floats in a Christian parade. The Church had to go to federal court to get her permit back; Rudy in turn marched in successive 'gay pride' parades which are so lewd they cannot be shown on the evening news.

Ethically, socially, and politically Giuliani is the mirror image of the most debauched elements of the Democrat Party.

We are Christians first, Republicans second. To remain faithful to our Creator, His Laws, and the Culture of Life, we must expose and oppose an enemy like Giuliani.

A while back, though, I read a rather astonishing item in the newspaper. It seems she had declared that the only presidential candidate who would be allowed on her show was the junior -- the very junior -- senator from Illinois. Now I could understand that, being a Democrat, she wouldn’t want to put out the welcome mat for Giuliani, Romney, Huckabee, McCain or Thompson. But why carry water for Obama, but not Hillary Clinton or John Edwards? From my vantage point, I can’t see a scintilla of difference in their politics. They’re all left-wingers, after all, who believe that raising taxes is the solution to all problems.

The only difference I could see was the only difference that I could literally see -- namely, that Barack Obama was darker complexioned than the other two. Was the fact that Obama’s sperm donor, a man who’d deserted his wife and little Barack at just about the time the umbilical cord was cut, sufficient reason for Oprah to give the guy her official blessing?

If a Mormon TV talk show host refused to have any of the candidates on his show other than Mitt Romney or if Larry King banished everyone who wasn’t Jewish from his domain, I’m dead certain he’d face universal condemnation. So how is it that Oprah goes so far as to hit the hustings with Obama and nobody even says “Boo”?
