The American people should be eternally grateful to Old Europe for having spiked the Bush-McCain plan to bring Georgia into NATO.

As of 1991, the oil of Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan belonged to Moscow. Can we not understand why Putin would smolder as avaricious Yankees built pipelines to siphon the oil and gas of the Caspian Basin through breakaway Georgia to the West?
For a dozen years, Putin & Co. watched as U.S. agents helped to dump over regimes in Ukraine and Georgia that were friendly to Moscow.

The United States must decide whether it wants a partner in a flawed Russia or a second Cold War. For if we want another Cold War, we are, by cutting Russia out of the oil of the Caspian and pushing NATO into her face, going about it exactly the right way.
Vladimir Putin is no Stalin. He is a nationalist determined, as ruler of a proud and powerful country, to assert his nation's primacy in its own sphere, just as U.S. presidents from James Monroe to Bush have done on our side of the Atlantic.

Supporting the GBU-28, Israel has improved some 500 bunker busters bought from the US in February 2005 - but in the event of the GBU-28s and the bunker busters not proving immediately effective a mixture of standoff tactical nuclear precision-guided missiles will be used. In 2007 Israel decided the use of nuclear weaponry would be used against prime targets such as Natanz; Isfahan and Arak should either diplomacy or air delivered weapons fail to neutralise Iran’s nuclear ambitions – in short Israel’s second strike would come via long range cruise or ballistic nuclear weapons.

This said – if Iran ups the ante it is probable that a general war would develop throughout the Middle East – which on current military assessments Iran and its allies would lose.

Iraq's al-Maliki wants short-term US agreement

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates (AP) - Iraq has proposed a short-term memorandum of understanding with the United States rather than trying to hammer through a formal agreement on the presence of U.S. forces, the country's prime minister said Monday.

Some type of agreement is needed to keep U.S. troops in Iraq after a United Nations mandate expires at year's end.

"The goal is to end the presence" of foreign troops, said al-Maliki.

At the same time, however, Zebari said that if the two sides could not agree, Iraq would either have to seek an extension of the U.N. mandate or pursue the type of memorandum of understanding that al-Maliki announced Monday.

The contentious issues are U.S. authority to carry out military operations in Iraq and arrest the country's citizens, plus legal immunity for private contractors and control of Iraqi air space.

Zebari said the U.S. had agreed to drop immunity for private contractors and give up control of Iraqi air space if the Iraqis guaranteed they could protect the country's skies with their limited air force.

The Iraqi government's decision to push the U.S. for a less formal agreement comes at a time when the government feels increasingly confident about its authority and improved stability in the country.

What is going on with Obama ? Is he a military strategist? is he deluded on how warfare is conducted. Is he going to RUIN this country?

His two statements, made Thursday in Fargo, North Dakota, reflected how the changing dynamics in Iraq have posed a challenge for Obama, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee.

This guy Obama is a phoney that has deluded the American people into thinking that he is something special. Many say that he is anti-American and IGNORANT of the cuirrent world events realities. Obama added that when he had spoken about possibly refining his policies, he was referring to questions about how big a residual force should be left behind to train Iraqi forces and conduct counterterrorism operations - not the overall timeline for withdrawal.
