Now, you can create it too.The Green Microgym, in the Alberta arts district of northeast Portland, opens this week and aims to turn human energy into electricity.Adam Boesel, a personal trainer and the owner of the gym, rigged up spin bikes with weedwacker motors and truck alternators in hopes of creating the first human-powered gym in the United States.

The charger derives power from the motion of walking, jogging, cycling, or driving. Six hours of motion provides 30 to 60 minutes of charging power. It will be priced between $25 and $40.

And that's not all. We reported recently on this site on the solar powered car making its way around the world. We also covered the concept of solar roads to capture usable energy. We even reported on a sail boat powered with a solar sail. Now the BBC reports that the U.S. military has held a test run in Arizona of a UK-made solar plane, the Zephyr-6. The plane flew for more than three days, running at night on solar charged batteries. The more than 83 hour non-stop flight was the longest of any unmanned aircraft.

Yawning, and smearing my eyes with my fingers, I walked bleary eyed into the kitchen and grabbed the kettle, unhooking it from the cord. I turned the tap and drew fresh water, checking with my hands to make sure it was cold enough (The best tea comes from the coldest water!). I filled the kettle as I glanced outside for a minute across the city mist. I could almost taste the grey. The kettle was half full, so I switched the tap off and returned it to its socket. I flicked the power switch on and sifted through the cupboards, looking for biscuits. Anything above loose crumbs would do. Thankfully I found some fusty digestives. For some reason, biscuits are always nicer when they've gone a bit dry and stale.

Given its limited reserves of natural uranium and its abundant supply of thorium, India has chalked out a unique three-stage nuclear program. In the first stage, pressurized heavy water reactors (PHWRs)—similar to those used in advanced industrial countries—burn natural uranium. In the second stage, fast-breeder reactors, which other countries have tried to commercialize without success, will burn plutonium derived from standard power reactors to stretch fuel efficiency. In the key third stage, on which India's long-term nuclear energy supply depends, power reactors will run on thorium and uranium-233 (an isotope that does not occur naturally).
