XUL Apps > Text Link - outsider reflex

Comments:

What's this? ...abstract

This allows URI texts written in webpages to be loaded by double clicks.

Without this extension, when you discover an URI text not linked, like "http://piro.sakura.ne.jp/", you have to do following steps to load the page:

   1. Select the URI text completely. (It may be a hard work if the page is rendered with a propotional font. This operation always chafes me.)
   2. Copy it. (press "Ctrl-C" or use "Copy" from the "Edit" menu)
   3. Paste it to the location bar.
   4. Press "Enter". Then, Firefox loads it.

or,

   1. Select the URI text completely. (It chafes me again!)
   2. Drag the selection string to the tab bar and drop it. Then, Firefox loads it.

With this extension, you can load the URI only following one step:

   1. Double-click on the URI text. Then, Firefox loads it.

I know that the "Linkification" extension provides similar result. My advantages are:

    * URIs which are split in multiple text-nodes, like "http://www.mozilla.org/".
    * URIs written with multi-byte characters. In Japan, an website of a major news uses this rule.
    * This doesn't defile appearance of webpages, because this doesn't modify webpages.

Global Inbox - MozillaZine Knowledge Base

Highlights and Sticky Notes:

Changing the Global Inbox setting for an existing account

To change the Global Inbox setting for an existing account, you need to follow three simple steps.

[edit]

Change the destination Inbox

Go to "Tools -> Account Settings -> Server Settings" and click on the "Advanced" button. A dialog box will then pop open.

To set the account to use the Global Inbox, select "Global Inbox (Local Folders Account)" and click "OK".

Important: if the account already has messages in the Inbox or other folders, you should copy or move these messages into Local Folders before setting the account to use the Global Inbox. If you don't copy or move the messages into Local Folders and you set the account to use the Global Inbox, the account will no longer be displayed in the folders pane and you will not be able to access those messages unless you go back and undo the Global Inbox setting.

To set the account to not use the Global Inbox, select either "Inbox for this server's account" or "Inbox for different account" and click "OK".

[edit]

Check settings for other folders and filters

After you have changed the account's setting for which Inbox to use, see if any of the following need to be changed:

Go to "Tools -> Account Settings -> Copies & Folders", and look at the destination folders for Sent, Drafts, and Templates. Make sure that the messages for each will be stored in your preferred folder locations.

If you are using junk-mail filtering for the account, go to "Tools -> Junk Mail Controls" and verify that the folder selected for Junk messages is the one you want to use.

If you have set up any filters, go to "Tools -> Message Filters" and make sure that they will work properly with your new Inbox configuration. Especially important if you are changing an account so that it will start using the Global Inbox: if you have set up any filters that sort messages into any of the folders for the account, you should disable/delete those filters or change the destination folders.

[edit]

Exit and restart Thunderbird

Important: exit Thunderbird and restart before downloading mail into any account whose Inbox/Global Inbox setting you've changed. If you do not exit and restart, messages might continue to download into their "old" locations (e.g., into the individual account Inbox rather than the Global Inbox).

Tags: thunderbird

Posted by: foxbeing

Download of the Day: TB QuickMove extension (Thunderbird) - Lifehacker

Comments:

The TB QuickMove extension for Thunderbird moves messages to folders using a key combination you define.

Blast through your inbox and shuttle messages into the Trusted Trio without ever taking your hands off the keyboard. TB QuickMove adds THE feature T-Bird's severely lacking. TB QuickMove is a free download, works wherever Thunderbird does (which is everywhere.)
Use Thunderbird like a pro

Comments:

Even if you use Thunderbird on a daily basis, you probably don't know it inside out. There are still quite a few 'hidden' features not covered in the online help that can significantly improve your emailing habits. And since Thunderbird's functionality can be expanded via extensions, you can add some clever features to it too. posted by foxbeing

Tags: thunderbird

Posted by: foxbeing

Xpunge - Theodore Tegos - Mozilla Thunderbird Extensions

Comments:

Xpunge is an extension that allows the user to empty the trash folder and compact folders in multiple accounts with a single action. These two operations are offered in Thunderbird through separate entries in the File menu. When multiple accounts are setup, repeating the same steps for each account can become quite tedious. This is where Xpunge comes in, combining the two actions (emptying the trash folder and compacting folders) in the convenience of a single button. It actually introduces two new buttons on the main toolbar, one used to process a single account and one used to simultaneously process multiple accounts, all done with just a single mouse click in each case. Xpunge works on all types of Thunderbird accounts, including IMAP email accounts. posted by foxbeing

Tags: thunderbird

Posted by: foxbeing
