Have ZoneAlarm Suite running on my PC and glad though that my system doesn’t crash even having them run side by side.

Tried Norton And ZA together but usually freezes my screen.

Yes, kill Ad-aware, kill Super Anti Spyware, Spyware Terminator & what ever other free anti-spy apps you have installed, or keep one as a backup scanner.

This “is not an anti virus app”. It “will not interfere” with any security suite or stand alone AV + Firewall.

On my Vista system, I use ESET Smart Security, Webroot Spy Sweeper & now this. On my XP system, Kaspersky Internet Security, Spy Emergency & now this. I have experienced zero conflicts, zero false positives in todays deep scan and zero detections.

Since I have Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 installed, and I’m no PC expert :) , I posted the following question in both Kaspersky Lab forums and in the Emsi Software forums:
I have Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 installed, its firewall / proactive defense active; On top of it, I just installed a-square. Do I have to disable a-square’s background guard if KIS has all its components active? Or the other way around? (disable KIS proactive defense if a-square’s background guard is active?)

I guess there’s no one clear answer, here are the two replies:

Kaspersky Lab Forum: “If you mean the IDS in A-squared, then yes, this should disabled completely and i would add AVP.exe to the exclusions in A-squared. The realtime protection didn’t seem to bother Kaspersky the last time i tried A-squared……i didn’t enable the cookieguard in A-squared either since it messed up logins to forums etc.”

“Basically you should not *disable*, you should try to set rules which are creating mutual understanding, so speaking, if there are conflicts between different Guards or sesveral HIPS/IDS technologies working together.
Sure sometimes there could be difficult situations and even unresolved conflicts.

is for a free year of the CA Anti-virus program - RoadRunner supplies the CA software suite to it’s customers. Another good source is the online OEM software shops where you can usually pick up a years worth of AV protection from brands like McAfee for ~$10. After trying Very Many products, my wife likes MS OneCare - up for renewal, best price I found was at Amazon for $20 for 3 PC licenses.

some general clarification about security software

a firewall, a virusscanner and an anti-malware tool are three very different kinds of software. Nobody please uninstall your virusscanner because you can have this GAotD today

It is a good rule of thumb to not have more than one realtimescanner working at the same time, but on the other hand you can have as many on demand scanners as you feel in for, just don’t run them at the same moment. A virusscanner and a an anti-malwarescanner at the sametime should be possible. If there is a antimalware scanner around conflicting with your virusscanner, dump the antimalware scanner unless you were already in for a change of virusscanner.

I also use Avast, Spybot, and Total Privacy.

I use Spybot S&D and this program when installed found nothing at all, So Spybot does it’s job nicely and will continue doing so WELL after 12 months (or HD failure/Swapping/Formatting)

I have been using a2 free for years and recently got the fully license version from Gizmo 8 days ago, so my username and code that i was using with the free worked just fine. So i downloaded this one and ran the zipfile clicked “Convert coupon code” on the one i already had installed and now have a extend license thanks to GAOD.

I find A2 to be vastly superior to Windows Defender (uninstall Defender, it’s a resource hog, runs whenever it feels like it, can crash applications, etc….)

a-squared Anti-Malware is not an anti-virus program but a program against trojans, spyware and so on. So you should not turn off Windows Defender.

Windows Defender is NOT an anti-virus program. It is an anti-spyware program. As such, it duplicates what a-squared Anti-Malware does.
