“Heart rates of between 105 and 134” beats per minute, Carey said, represent the fat-burning zone. “It’s probably best to work out near the top of that zone,” he says, “so that you burn more calories over all” than at the extremely leisurely lower end.

Lactulose is
probably the most popular
treatment specifically to prevent constipation on the Feline CRF
Information list. -
A 1997 review of renal failure in humans
(Lactulose
and renal failure
Vogt B & Frey FJ, Scandinavian Journal of Gastroenterology
Supplement 222 pp100-1) indicated that lactulose may help
promote the excretion of BUN and creatinine through the faeces, and some
people have found that this effect is sometimes seen in CRF cats; but
lactulose is not usually given specifically or solely for this purpose
because of the obvious side effects of causing diarrhoea in
non-constipated patients. The
British Medical Journal
reports on a recent study of human patients that indicates that lactulose
may also help to prevent urinary tract infections. - 4 more annotations...

I have infoselect linked to OneNote so I can open and search my
older infoselect notes and stay in OneNote. If there is something in
infoselect that I found and think I may need again, I can transfer it
instantly to OneNote through its capture facility. It is then stored and
marked as coming from OneNote, automatically given a heading, date, time
stamped, filed and categorized.

Does modifying dietary lipids influence the progre...[Vet Clin North Am Small Anim Pract. 1996] - PubMed Result on 2009-09-17
-
Recent studies have identified important effects of dietary fatty acid composition in animals with chronic renal disease, particularly in dogs. The theoretic basis for these effects provides a rationale for the use of diets enriched with omega-3 (but not omega-6) polyunsaturated fatty acids. A therapeutic trial with a diet enriched with omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids should be considered as a maneuver designed to slow the rate of progression of chronic renal disease in dogs.

There are two
essential fatty acids for cats, linoleic and arachidonic (both are Omega 6
fatty acids). -
Unfortunately, excessive amounts of Omega 6 fatty
acids may cause inflammation of the kidneys and therefore may not be a good
thing for CRF cats.

Phys Ed: Does Ibuprofen Help or Hurt During Exercise? - Well Blog - NYTimes.com on 2009-09-02
-
Those runners who’d popped over-the-counter ibuprofen pills before and during the race displayed significantly more inflammation and other markers of high immune system response afterward than the runners who hadn’t taken anti-inflammatories. The ibuprofen users also showed signs of mild kidney impairment and, both before and after the race, of low-level endotoxemia, a condition in which bacteria leak from the colon into the bloodstream.

The painkillers also blunt the body’s response to exercise at a deeper level. Normally, the stresses of exercise activate a particular molecular pathway that increases collagen, and leads, eventually, to creating denser bones and stronger tissues. If “you’re taking ibuprofen before every workout, you lessen this training response,” Warden says. Your bones don’t thicken and your tissues don’t strengthen as they should. They may be less able to withstand the next workout. In essence, the pills athletes take to reduce the chances that they’ll feel sore may increase the odds that they’ll wind up injured — and sore.
