  • Bates College | Bonner Leader Program on 2009-11-24
    • The Bonner Leader Program is a project of the Harward Center for Community Partnerships, supported by the Bonner Foundation.  The Program’s goals are to promote opportunity for student development, learning, and engagement through community work – we do this by providing students financial and programmatic support to participate in group work, orientation, training, and reflection through community service, work, and learning.

  • 5 Impressive Real-Life Google Wave Use Cases on 2009-11-23
    • We happen to think this particular use case is genius, especially for content-rich seminars and events where attendees are typically taking their own individual notes. With the shared Google Wave experience they can combine forces to create a more meaningful and accurate recounting of information shared in conference sessions.

ITeam members used this approach to record the presentations and discussions with the visitors from Singapore. Most don't have Wave accounts so they used a gDocument; it clearly demonstrates that students can use the approach, too.

Renewable energy educators as well as international leaders in the composites industry will lead more than 15 sessions. Specific areas of focus during the conference include current industry technology; future market opportunities; design and manufacturing of composite materials for wind power; and installation, maintenance and repair of composite wind blades.

The organizers focus their effort on adult professionals, will parts of the conference be accessible to students, too? How could we add value to the event so that students would benefit?

    • The University of Maine’s Advanced Structures and Composites Center recently received an $8 million grant to develop and deploy three small-scale deepwater offshore wind turbines in the Gulf of Maine.

I'm excited to see this document and wonder whether you plan on putting a Creative Commons License on it so that we can modify it for use in secondary schools, too.

  • Tom Vander Ark: How Social Networking Will Transform Learning on 2009-11-14
    • In the coming decade, most middle and high schools will adopt some version of 1:1 technology, online learning will play an increasing role, and learning experiences will be conducted and coordinated on social learning platforms. While adoption won't be simple and smooth, it will cut through the typical barriers that block other reforms.

We have several years of experience with 1-to-1 and the expansion of MLTI to 6.5 years throughout the system. Let's identify our illustrations of these principles and focus on extending them and facilitating new entries.

  • Anti-Tobacco Summit - MYAN - Maine Youth Action Network on 2009-11-13
      • Action Planning
        • Action planning is one of the most important parts of the event, because that's when you think about how to take what you've learned and use it back in your communities! We tried a new system for action planning at the last Summit and will be doing something similar (with a few small changes) again this year.
        • There will be a workshop on action planning (each group is strongly encouraged to send 1-2 people to this workshop) in which participants will learn about the components of action planning.
        • Then there will be time with your group to create an amazing plan so you can apply the ideas and skills you've learned during the event.
        • The final step will be to present your plan to a panel of youth & adults--this panel's job is to ask questions and give you feedback to help you strengthen your plan.
        • Each group will leave with a goal and a plan in place, ready to take action.
