1000 Words Photography Magazine: Wayne Mitchelson on 2009-09-07

"The 19th century German Romantic painters inspired me into my current and ongoing practice, particularly Casper David Friedrich. I was fascinated by his landscape paintings, the mood, light, compositional devices and the mystery surrounding each one. I initially started to create Friedrickesque images using photographs but 2 years on the influences from cinema directors including David Lynch, Ridly Scott and Roman Polanski, and in literature, Franz Kafka, J.G Ballard and Samuel Beckett have become more prevalent.
For example, in Kafka’s series of short observational writings called Meditations he writes about everyday situations but from a philosophical direction. In The Men Passing By, the inspiration for my Two Men Running, the narrator meditates on the vision of a man running down the street in the night. He imagines several scenarios involving the man and another man chasing him, leaving the reader to imagine these outcomes. This idea is now echoing Kafka’s musings and developing into One Frame Cinema images, a frame of an unmade film like the works of Gregory Crewdson."

"Emotion or feeling is really the only thing about pictures I find interesting. Beyond that it is just a trick."

"My photography is a reflection, which comes to life in action and leads to meditation. Spontaneity - the suspended moment - intervenes during action, in the viewfinder."

"It's not how a photographer looks at the world that is important. It's their intimate relationship with it."

modern vs postmodern photography - Photo.net Philosophy of Photography Forum on 2009-05-01

You'll want to check out the very pivotal John Szarkowski and how he almost singlehandedly influence the whole of Postmodern Photographic Art. Another individual worth seeking out the writings of would be Jeff Wall, a most lucid Canadian writer that has a very strong grasp on contemporary photographic history and has a wonderful ability to communicate this history. Take the time to read what Clement Greenberg has to say (web search) on the matter in regard to Postmodern Art.

PM photography use, apprpriation and borrowing, social/political comment, and humour - parody, irony and playfulness. In gerenal it is also usingeclecticism(combining genres and styles from remote source), banality, bad taste, recontexualisation (placing images into new contexts), intertexuality (ref to art and cultural texts rather than realit), reflexivity (self reference) and deconstruction (exposing self-contradiction or the arbitrary or the constructed origin of 'truth')

Comments can be started and ended with /* Comment Text Isn’t Parsed By The Browser */.
When you are working in your K2 scheme it might be a good idea to add !important to your selector attributes if they don’t seem to be having any effect. Adding this overrides the style.css with your custom scheme attribute. This may not always be the case, but if so this is the solution. Such an entry may look like this: border: 1px solid #A6B0BF !important;.
-
Then add something as follows to your scheme stylesheet, testscheme.css. All paths are relative so the image has to be in your scheme folder. The reason we have #38C in the front is in case the image doesn’t get loaded, it will paint a background of color #38C first
