Bansode was arrested following a complaint lodged by Paresh Vinayak Degaonkar, the zonal officer of NASSCOM. The complaint was filed with the cyber cell of Pune crime branch. The other two suspects have been identified as Kunal Abhay Gargatti of Belgaum and Jayesh Bhagchandani. All the three have been booked under various sections of the Information Technology Act.

According to the police, Bansode is the director of a BPO unit in Kothrud. The UK company, Scanning and Data Solutions, had given him data on medical history of patients for processing. Michael Benny, owner of the UK company, had suspected that Bansode was involved in selling their company's data to some other company. Benny faxed an application to Nasscom and requested an investigation into the matter.

The investigations have revealed that Gargatti and Bhagchandani had requested Bansode to sell the data for the use of a charitable company. The police suspect that Bansode had sold the data to Gargatti and Bhagchandani.
