The death of dead time « Being Connected by Ian Fogg on 2009-02-06

So, 2009’s new mobile phones, other devices or mobile software have to displace an existing digital activity. In fact, they have to compete with multiple digital options as well as books, newspapers and the ubiquitous freesheets.

VisionMobile :: blog :: Cloud Computing anyone? on 2009-02-02

The iPhone is the first real device to access the cloud effectively, and what is really interesting about it is that the browser is not the preferred choice to access the cloud: the vast majority of non-game iPhone applications are simply optimized front-end to a dedicated SaaS! I predict the same for Android Marketplace…and many software actors will pop out around this cloud interaction.

Palm Pre: The Top 15 Questions, Answered - News and Analysis by PC Magazine on 2009-01-13

13.) Will there be restrictions on apps?
Palm will certify all developers and approve all apps, but only to make sure they work properly. They won't kill apps for content-related reasons like Apple does. Think Android, not iPhone.

"...my phone is not authoritative for my contact information. The phone has a local cache of information that it gets from Outlook. But Outlook's not authoritative for my contact information, neither is Gmail, neither is my Vonage, neither is Grand Central, neither is the six or eight other things that I have in my life that think they are.
"What none of them do is the simple thing of, 'tell me the URL for your contact service.' Additionally, it has to be a service, not a repository, because in fact the contact information that's relevant for me includes the global address list for HP, and I have to be able to have that invoked... I can't replicate that data and keep it synchronized, so I need to be able to use a federation model behind this single endpoint to answer those kinds of queries...
"So when I think about the authoritative data source, it should be in the cloud. And it's a service, not a repository, so I can deal with the complexities of the real world where there are many potential data sources. However, I have to get every piece of software that's involved to do the right thing—to delegate responsibility—rather than acting like they're independent owners and whatever they have in their local state is good enough."

Customer Behavior drives Operators to Open Innovation - Alan Quayle Weblog on 2009-01-12
-
The typical operator product development process is usually: an opportunity is identified, market research is performed, a project is created once budget can be found, the new product development process runs its course, and then a service is launched typically 12-18 months after the initial market research.

AppStore SchmappStore | IMHO on 2009-01-06
-
This may sound rough on the product managers, but given the fact stats show that about 3% of people have downloaded a game, while 25% have played a game preloaded (source: M:Metrics), you know there is a gap in terms of how you manage the store.

Mike’s preference was always: write apps for the 95% market, not the 5% market. That’s what we did with Delicious Library; it’s an app for your mom and my mom.
