And how to join? It's invitation only. At the moment, most of those within the system are employees at Google or know employees at Google. So while the system is open to the public, it's really that the public now knows it exists. To be part of it, you'll have to hope that someone you know is with
Mainly, younger kids have a very different notion about private vs. public information. I know this is an issue for all students, but younger kids have a harder time recognizing personal boundaries. A kindergartener, for instance, would be far more likely to tell her classmates that her mother is in jail than would a 5th grader, for instance.
The development of knowledge through learning to self-publish and comment on postings that adhere to the protocols and norms of behaviour in the chosen communication network is expected to enhance the learners’ reflective, meta-cognitive and written skills as well as management of their learning.
Our rationale is based upon the notion that the use of technology has the distinct ability to create a more interactive classroom. We think that teachers should be tempted to put web 2.0 tools to work as a method for increasing engagement in students.
If the task is not well-conceived, students will likely see the task of blogging as just some additional busy work that has no benefit to their learning.
Blogs can be the catalyst that has students analyzing and synthesizing course materials. With proper planning and appropriate curriculum, individual students may also use a blog to find ways to apply new ideas.
Also, in an ideal world, the process of blogging will actually create additional participation from students meaning more materials for the teacher to review and assess.
Blogging is only one of so many unique and useful assignments that can be incorporated into any content area to improve literacy skills such as reading, writing, and comprehension. However, blogging alone will not improve these skills, rather, it is the tasks the educator gives the students within the blogging that will improve their students' skills.
Types of assignments can include response activities where students provide their reactions or thoughts to text; comprehension activities such as summarizing, determining theme or main idea of a text; comparing and contrasting two separate texts; or creative writing including short story and poetry.
This is a blanket agreement that the blog cannot be used to harass other students or create entries that are inappropriate in nature. Make sure students are aware of the policies, and there should be no problems. Other rules more specific to your blog assignment may include correct spelling and grammar, no profanity, and staying on topic.
Cashman indicated that witnesses who did not come to the girl's aid or call police were unlikely to be charged with a crime unless they aided the assault.
Trijullo said that school officials had recently approved a "very costly" security system, but that it had not yet been installed. Security cameras already installed in the school are not believed to be functional, he said, but there were no cameras pointed at the spot where the rape happened.
Police in Richmond, Calif., believe that as many as 20 people may have either watched or participated in a vicious rape of the Richmond High School teenager that lasted for more than two hours in a dimly lit corner of the sprawling campus.
"These suspects are monsters. And, I don't understand how this many people capable of such atrocious behavior could be in one place at one time," Richmond Police Lt. Mark Gagan told KGO.
E-mail as we know it is based on the snail-mail format: you send a message; your friend receives it. Wave makes mail collaborative and instant. When you type a message to a friend, he or she sees what you're typing as you type it. You can jump in and start drafting a reply before the initial message is complete. Wave also lets users collaborate on editable documents, called Wikis, share photos, update blogs, set appointments and chat in big groups. You can add conference calls to a Wave. A translation function called Rosy will translate chat messages between languages as you write.
Wave is like mobile texting, it's like a Wiki, it's like instant messaging, it's like a blog. It's like e-mail -- well, kind of. It's something new, he said
