 Typical of Jones's other books where seemingly unconnected characters and problems come together in a satisfactory ending. Fantasy genre, sequel to Howl's Moving Castle but with Howl and Sophie as secondary characters.  The story revolves around Charmaine and Peter and their difficulties taking care of the Wizard Northland's house.  The house is almost similar to Howl's castle in that it seem to cross space and time though maybe not dimensions, although there are unexplored parts of the house that may do just that. The cast of characters is rather long and one may have difficulty explaining the story as there are so many subplots that don't come together until the end.  Charmaine is a strong character like Sophie from the previous book.  She can be selfish and snotty, especially to Peter but as the narrator frequently reveals her thoughts we can see that she feels bad and knows when she is acting rude but can't help it anyway, which makes her rather real and like-able. The Wizard Northland reminds me of the wizard who trained Christopher Chant in her earlier work, The Nine Lives of Christopher Chant although he is much more kindly and not at all brusque.
