Cyrus, Miley (1992-...), an American singer and actress, became a sensation in the television series “Hannah Montana.” The show began in 2006 on the Disney Channel and made Cyrus famous. In the series, she plays a 14-year-old girl who leads a double life. During the day, she is Miley Stewart, a typical student. At night, Stewart becomes Hannah Montana, a pop music star. Cyrus’s success on the TV show led to recordings and sold-out concert performances.
Cyrus was born on Nov. 23, 1992, in Franklin, Tennessee, and grew up on her parents’ farm outside Nashville. Her full name is Destiny Hope Cyrus. Her father is Billy Ray Cyrus, a popular country singer and actor. She acquired the nickname Miley as a child, shortened from “Smiley.”
Cyrus made her acting debut in 2003 on an episode of her father’s television series “Doc.” Her first three record albums, Hannah Montana (2006), Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus (2007), and Breakout (2008), all reached number one on the sales charts. Cyrus starred in a popular concert tour called “Best of Both Worlds” in 2007 and 2008 in which she performed both as Miley Cyrus and as Hannah Montana. The tour was documented in a popular 3-D concert film, Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert (2008). Cyrus also provided the voice for Penny in the animated film Bolt (2008) and starred in Hannah Montana: The Movie (2009). Cyrus writes some of her own songs and has a Hannah Montana line of clothing for girls.
