As the cold finally descends this winter, take the closest thing to an African
savannah safari without the danger of getting eaten: A Day of Lions at Franklin
Park Zoo and New England Aquarium. Spend a morning or early afternoon in person
with the King of the Kalahari Desert at Franklin Park Zoo, then journey to his
natural habitat with the giant-screen 3D IMAX film Lions 3D on New
England’s largest movie screen at the Aquarium’s Simons IMAX Theatre.

When I was in eighth grade, my friends and I would roam the school halls
shooting gooks. During the five minutes between periods, we would carry our
imaginary M-16s along with our books, moving "silent and deadly" and--ksshh,
ksshh--blowing away anyone in the school who was Asian. It didn't matter that
Donna Lee and Kay Roh were Korean, and Jenny Yang was Chinese. To us, they were
all Viet Cong. After school we would meet at our headquarters, a patch of trees
behind the tennis courts, to talk about Charlie's latest moves, plan our next
push across the DMZ, and total up the day's kills.
