    • SquareTrade has more detailed information (the full PDF of the company's study is available here) on the research on its website. But here are some highlights about how, why, and which laptops fail:

      > 20.4 percent of failures are due to hardware malfunctions. 10.6 percent are due to drops, spills, or other accidental damage.

      > Netbooks have a roughly 20 percent higher failure rate due to hardware malfunctions than standard laptops. The more you pay for your laptop, the less likely it is to fail in general (maybe because you're more careful with it?).

    • > The most reliable companies? A shocker: Toshiba and Asus, both with below a 16 percent failure rate due to hardware malfunction.

      > The least reliable brands? Acer, Gateway, and HP. HP's hardware malfunction rate, the worst in SquareTrade's analysis, is a whopping 25.6 percent.

    • You didn't understand the movie at all. Particularly not the quasi-Nietzschean aspect of The Fight Club movement and the natural evolution of STRUGGLE (the phenomenon known as Will To Power). Jack's self-help mania in the early part of the film represents the Internal Struggle against character weakness. The manifestation of Tyler Durden represents the Material Struggle against physical weaknes. The execution of Project Mayhem represents the External Struggle against political weaness. The integration of Tyler into Jack's awakened conscious represents the Metaphysical Struggle against self-doubt (weakness of the will). Having triumphed in every struggle Jack surpasses his humanity to become like Zarathustra an Ubermensch.
    • I was always puzzled and annoyed by the critical community's welcome embrace of American Beauty and shunning of Fight Club. They both deal with many of the same themes and cultural ideas. Yet American Beauty allows the flawed anti-hero to die a 'tragic' death and escape having to deal with the consequences of his actions (deleted scenes imply that he still goes to heaven). While the allegedly immoral and dangerous Fight Club ends with Tyler basically admitting he screwed up and taking a baby step to do better (of course, most Fincher films deal with characters finally accepting and welcoming personal responsibility for their poor life choices).
