  March 2, the first Saturday in March, the
  race doesn’t begin there.
  The teams go off every two
  minutes to the first checkpoint, Eagle River.
  There,
  they load up in a truck and are driven past the ice-free Knik River to
  Wasilla,
  where they spend the night and begin racing
  the next day
