I'm am educational scientist doing research on visual culture(s) in the new media. I'm teaching media literacy ("Medienbildung") at the University of Magdeburg/Germany. I am interested in Virtual Worlds,Second Life,Social Networking,Web 2.0,3D Web,Online Communities,Internet Research,Internet Studies.

I use Diigo because I couldn't live without it anymore ;-) ... no really, because it's one of the most valuable research tools I ever used (I'm doing internet studies, though). And because the Diigo guys create the new features I really appreciate . And because they are very responsive and really pay attention to your problems as well as your suggestions.

- insitutional VLEs do indeed tend to suck the lifeblood out of institutions, giving little back
- Students who are disengaged or bored with homogenous, bland content that sits in the 'Learning Management System'. Disenchanted staff who pay lip service to a lumbering system that very few people really want to use, because either it is too time consuming to use effectively, too difficult to navigate or simply unfit for purpose. The institution suffers too of course, because huge maintenance and upgrade fees and user contracts have to be forked out each year

  - the resonance between all elements in a game is what’s important
  - All these mechanics together are meant to trick you into focusing on your score. The trick is that, in the end, you realize that your score is rather meaningless. There’s no leaderboard or anything like that.
  - It’s a video game! Of course it has a score! But the notion of score seems kind of silly when it’s juxtaposed against the themes in this game.
