  • RF-WiFi-ID – Tracking With Combined Technologies :: Symblogogy | The News is NowPublic.com on 2008-08-26
    • At a recent exposition held at London’s Olympia Exposition Centre, The Wireless Event – delivering enterprise mobility, Motorola, and Siemens unveiled systems that were jointly developed with the Finnish firm Ekahau, which can track objects or people.

      By using technologies that were already deployed in most business and public controlled environments, one can track objects and people throughout a managed WiFi radio space.

      RFID tags, and some software stitch this application together so that through the triangulation of sensed ping information, the specific location of a person or thing is easily determined.

      Wireless tracking systems could be used to protect patients in hospitals and students on campuses, backers of the technology said.

      The combination of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags and wi-fi allows real-time tracking of objects or people inside a wireless network.

      Angelo Lamme, from Motorola, said tracking students on a campus could help during a fire or an emergency.

      "You would know where your people are at any given moment," he said.

      Marcus Birkl, head of wireless at Siemens, said location tracking of assets or people was one of the biggest incentives for companies, hospitals and education institutions to roll out wi-fi networks.

    • Cleaning is relatively simple and I’m finding under normal use and decent flushing between shots, a weekly clean (shower screen removal/clean, group head scrub and backwash) suffices. I have a spare shower screen and fit a pre cleaned unit every time. I then gently boil the dirty shower screen in a strong solution of water and dishwashing powder which dissolves the gunk off quite easily in about 15 minutes. Then I rinse several times and boil in filtered water twice.

      Every 3 months I have removed the big chrome PF clamp and given the GH a really thorough clean and check the gasket. This is reasonably easy – remove 3 bolts and it drops down providing ready access to all.

      I have de-scaled the boiler twice in 12 months using the standard citric acid technique but after monitoring the input water for several weeks on sevral occassions using a total dissolved solids meter and not detecting much in the water I will probably now only de-scale once a year.

    • Hi Simon,
      It's definitely the anti vac valve which is stuck shut. Should be an easy fix, they're normally located on top of the boiler though so it may mean removing some of the rockwool to inspect it. Maybe that it's scaled up, so unscrew from the boiler then split it apart and clean it. Don't really need any grease when you put it back together, it just attracts contamination and can create problems...
      It's always good practise to open one of the steam valves when you turn the machine on, this allows any air to escape as the boiler heats up. Just shut it off when you hear steam escaping.
      I've never used/worked on a Pavoni, so I'm not really sure where the antivac valve is located. Maybe someone else can help you there. Always worth a google to see if there's any drawings anywhere.
