It's my duty to inform you that there's no such thing as "SEO in a hurry." If you're in a situation where your success depends on immediate search engine visibility, you've already failed by putting yourself into that situation to begin with. If you need search engine visibility in a hurry, you should be looking at pay-per-click, not SEO.

I don't tell you this to discourage you, but to set your expectations within the realm of reality. Earning "Page 1" position for your key phrases takes time and patience. Anybody who tells you otherwise is lying to you, and I'd be happy to debate the point with them!

No matter how cool your interface is, it would be better if there were less of it.

Think about it — if you oversleep just 30 minutes a day, that’s 180+ hours a year.  And if you’re at 60 minutes a day, that’s 365 hours a year, the equivalent of nine 40-hour weeks.  That’s a lot of time!  Now I don’t know about you, but I can think of more creative things to do with that time than lying in bed longer than I need to.

You can’t get away from the web these days, regardless of your profession. Even non-web freelancers find quickly that that a website is not only expected by clients, but a critical marketing tool.

Freelancers have to be excellent businesspeople. You have to be able to do some basic accounting. You have to learn sales and marketing. You have to know how to negotiate, and how to figure your income taxes, or at least be willing to hire someone who can.
