"What we however are neglecting/overlooking, despite all the security & privacy measures taken, is that we are also working towards an era in which your personal information will become an integral part of a couple of Grids (read Clouds). Owning such a Grid or just merely controlling this Grid and it’s abundance of personal data – for some information and for others a wealth of Intelligence - incorporates a major risk of potential abuse.
So what can we do? The answer to this question is more complex. In earlier days the French philosopher Montesquieu, confronted with a similar challenge, developed the concept of the separation of powers. A concept at the time meant to control the powers unleashed through the slow conversion from an agricultural-, towards a more industrial society.
Today we however are witnessing an almost explosive conversion from this industrial society towards a digital society, and as during the first conversion our society again is going to be confronted with another major power struggle. "

"Ever since knowledge management as a discipline began some thirty years ago, there has been a strong focus on collaboration. We always assume everyone knows what we mean when we say that: groups working together and sharing knowledge. Even if we define “collaboration” at a more granular level (distinguishing between team collaboration and communities of practice or communities of interest), our intent is clear."

"More than 800 million people can call themselves Europeans: from Finland to Malta and from Iceland to Azerbaijan. Their cultures and societies have all been influenced by the Roman Empire, Christianity, Enlightenment and two World Wars. This communal history has not led to one European culture. The importance of God, the value of leisure time, the significance of having children and the disapproval of homosexuality all differ enormously between countries. The difference and similarities of values were made visible on this website of the Atlas of European Values."
