Is your website really being optimized or is your SEO expert ripping you off? Here are three ways to tell:
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a great marketing asset. It increases your search engine rankings (on google or yahoo for example),and increases website traffic and business leads. It is definitely worth the money IF it is really being done, and being done correctly. Here are 3 ways you can check for yourself:
1. Google Yourself. Google your company's keywords regularly to see if you come up, and where you fall in the line-up. If your SEO is really being done, and done well, you will see some movement in the rankings. Particularly up.
2. Find out who links to you. Your placement in the search engine is often determined by the number of “high value” links back to your site. A link from Craigslist can instantly boost your rankings, while a link from Bob’s House of Junk has no effect. Go to Yahoo and type “link:www.yourwebsite.com” into the search bar and see who links back to you. Do the same search using your competitor's website to see how they compare.
3. Ask your SEO expert for a monthly report. Get a baseline report of where your website stands before optimization began, then request regular (monthly) reports detailing ranking movement.
