Grammar expert Suzanne Harrison ("Grammar is a tool to enhance understanding," Dec 20) is apparently unaware of the extensive research showing that the formal study of grammar has no effect on reading and writing proficiency, as well as research showing that wide reading for pleasure results in better control of complex grammatical constructions.
Ms. Harrison is free to disagree with this research, but is not free to ignore it.
