• A Massachusetts organization that  promotes families says teachers in the state were offered professional credit for attending a now-infamous 2000 seminar in which students were instructed in lewd homosexual practices.
• According to tresearch by staff and volunteers for Mass Resistance, the state Department of Education formally recognized the conference organized by the Gay, Lesbian Straight Education Network and supervised by Kevin Jennings – now President Obama's chief of the education department's office of "safe schools" – with the credit.

• "The DOE has tried to distance itself from the infamous GLSEN-Boston Fistgate conference in 2000. But that won't wash. They were in this together."
• In May, WND broke the news of Jennings' federal appointment to oversee  "safety" in the nation's public schools.
• WND also reported Jennings' background of homosexual activism, his founding of GLSEN and his agenda, including when it was revealed a publisher of "gay erotica" sought him out to write a book aimed at encouraging homosexuality in high schools and colleges
• The result was "Becoming Visible," which opens with, "Why teach gay and lesbian history? …
• Researchers at Mass Resistance said Sasha Alyson of Alyson Publications asked Jennings to do the book.
• In Jennings' acknowledgments for the book, he writes,
• "Writing this part of the book has caused me more anxiety than any other. It simply is not possible to express my gratitude to the many people who have helped make this book possible. ... With apologies to anyone omitted, here we go! The obvious place to begin is with Alyson Publications. First, Sasha Alyson had the vision to conceive of this project, and I had the good luck to be the person he sought out to complete it. I am deeply appreciative of being afforded this opportunity."
• There have been multiple reports about the Massachusetts school seminar 10 years ago sponsored by GLSEN that included instructors providing explicit direction on homosexual activities, such as "fisting."
• The subject has been raised as a direct challenge to Jennings' fitness to hold office, and as WND has reported, several dozen members of Congress have signed a letter to President Obama demanding his dismissal.
• Mass Resistance now says the Massachusetts education commissioner, David P. Driscoll, wrote a welcoming letter for the conference, stating, "I am proud that Massachusetts has taken a leadership role in creating safer schools for gay, lesbian and bisexual students. More than at any other time, through the efforts of community-based organizations such as GLSEN and PFLAG, Massachusetts students, educators and parents are participating in Safe Schools programs that make a positive difference."
• In addition, Mass Resistance said "teachers were also able to collect professional development credits for attendance."
• "We can't imagine that the DOE would extend professional credits for an event unless they knew the content of the workshops.
• Two of the instructors of the fisting workshop were DOE employees (in the 'Safe Schools' program).
• If the DOE people knew the content, wouldn't the man in charge of the conference know too?
• "That would be Kevin Jennings. And the Mass. DOE 'Safe Schools' program was his brainchild," the report said.
• A teacher who attended the seminar also has confirmed in a recorded interview with Jim Hoft of the Gateway Pundit blog that Jennings was the chief of the event
• The teacher insisted on anonymity in her interview with Hoft out of concern for her own safety and that of her family.
• She addressed the focus of seminars at the conference that, according to reports, provided children as young as 12 instructions on how to engage in homosexual acts.
• The teacher, identified only at MT, said, "This whole conference was his [Kevin Jennings'] dream and his mindset. This was his vision from the very beginning."

• Brian Camenker and Amy Contrada at Mass Resistance in Massachusetts also have posted online audio recordings from the seminar, documenting discussions such as whether to "spit or swallow" during oral sex and how to accomplish "fisting."
• "Of course Jennings and the Massachusetts Department of Education knew beforehand what the 'sexuality educators' would discuss with children at the 'fisting' workshop," Mass Resistance said in a recent report. "The instructor Margot Abels said so herself."
• The state instruction program, labeled "Safe Schools for Gay and Lesbian Students," was held April 18, 2000.
• Multiple WND messages left with the U.S. Department of Education as well as Jennings' office were not returned.
• But the congressional campaign to remove Jennings is available online under the website StopJennings.org. The site tells why signers believe Jennings is unfit for the office.
• "We respectfully request that you remove Kevin Jennings, the Assistant Deputy Secretary for the Office of Safe and Drug Free Schools, from your administration. It is clear that Mr. Jennings lacks the appropriate qualifications and ethical standards to serve in this capacity."
• Dozens of members of Congress have joined the effort to remove Jennings, who has described how he developed the strategy to use the word "safe" to promote homosexuality in Massachusetts schools.
• WND also has reported concerns by Mission America over subject material in books recommended by GLSEN for school children.
• The group's Linda Harvey warned, "GLSEN believes the early sexualization of children can be beneficial. This means that virtually any sexual activity as well as exposure to graphic sexual images and material, is not just permissible but good for children, as part of the process of discovering their sexuality."

• Her report cited one passage from a book recommended for students in grades 7-12:
• What follows in "Growing Up Gay/Growing Up Lesbian" by Malcolm Boyd is a "graphic description" of a homosexual encounter.
• Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic League wrote, "On September 23, I wrote a news release on the curious moral credentials of Kevin Jennings to be President Obama's Safe Schools Czar: a former drug user and irresponsible teen counselor, he is also a Christian basher.
• "What was not known at the time is that he is also a proud member of Act Up, the homosexual urban terrorist group that broke into St. Patrick's Cathedral (in New York City) in 1989 and disrupted Mass; the Eucharist was desecrated and obscene depictions of Cardinal O'Connor were posted," he continued.
• And he is no mere member: Jennings is listed as a donor to a sick display, 'Act Up New York: Activism, Art, and the AIDS Crisis, 1987-1993,' currently featured at the Harvard Art Museum.
• "Now a group called MassResistance, and the website WorldNetDaily, have exposed Jennings as a member of Act Up.
• Harvard, of course, would never feature a display of Klan paraphernalia and say it was being done for the purpose of 'dialogue,'" he said.
• "The real story here is not the corruption of Harvard – that's old hat – the real story is the president of the United States choosing a morally challenged anti-Catholic homosexual to join his team.
• That Jennings belongs to, and sponsors, an urban terrorist organization, should alone disqualify him from public service at a municipal level.

• The Obama administration will abandon a Dec. 31 deadline for states to tighten security requirements for driver's licenses, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano announced Friday.

• Delaying the requirement, which faces opposition from governors and Senate Republicans over how it should be implemented, jeopardizes an immigration and security measure adopted after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
• But it also removes concerns that tens of thousands of holiday travelers could have been subjected to heightened airport security checks if they lacked the new licenses.
• Under a controversial 2005 domestic security program passed by Congress and known as Real ID, states were required to issue more secure licenses by the end of 2009.
• Those would be the only licenses accepted by federal officials for such purposes as boarding commercial aircraft.
• Instead, states now have until May 11, 2011, to comply with Real ID, Napolitano said.
• "In order to ensure that the millions of Americans traveling this holiday season are not disrupted, DHS is extending the Dec. 31 REAL ID material compliance deadline," Napolitano said in a written statement.
• States have balked at what governors called an unfunded, $4 billion federal mandate by Congress, and what civil liberties groups criticized as a de facto national ID.
• After opponents fought the Bush administration to a standstill, Obama security officials and governors jointly asked Congress last spring to replace Real ID with a new program called Pass ID, which would cost half as much, be less stringent and come with federal grants.
• That plan would give states five years to include in their IDs a digital photograph and machine-readable features such as a bar code.
• It would also require states to verify applicants' identities and legal status by checking federal immigration, Social Security and State Department databases and original birth certificate records.
• It would add stronger privacy controls than contained in the Real ID program and drop a demand for new databases.
• But opponents refused to yield, with some Republicans accusing the administration of gutting the earlier plan and backsliding on security.
• Supporters hoped the year-end deadline would push Congress to approve Pass ID.
• Privacy groups continue to fight what they have called a "Real ID-lite."
• "Any attempt to implement PASS ID will harm national security," Reps. Lamar Smith (R-Tex.), Peter T. King (R-N.Y.), Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) and F. James Sensenbrenner Jr. (R-Wis.) wrote in a Dec. 14 letter to several colleagues.
• "Key senators have called DHS's bluff, and the agency has once again blinked," American Civil Liberties Union officials wrote in a blog recently,
• noting that under Bush, DHS extended a previous deadline of May 2008 in the face of similar opposition.
• Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.) said that until heath-care legislation is passed, he could not spare the time to overcome procedural blocks that several Senate Republicans had anonymously placed on the ID measure.
• With Congress set to leave soon for its winter break, Napolitano and governors retreated, leaving the future of the changes in doubt.
• On Thursday, Republican Gov. Jim Douglas of Vermont, chairman of the National Governors Association, and Democratic Gov. Joe Manchin III of West Virginia, vice chairman, asked Napolitano to waive the deadline.
• DHS said 46 states are not in compliance with the requirements, and 13 have passed laws refusing to participate.
• "Our citizens should not be punished for the failings of Real ID and the inability of Congress to act," the governors wrote.
• Roger Dow, head of the U.S. Travel Association, an industry trade group, said its members were pleased that the government did not allow the battle to tie up "the way the economy moves or how Americans travel," by potentially forcing residents of the 46 states to go through added airport screening.
• Napolitano urged Congress "to address systemic problems with the REAL ID Act to advance our security interests over the long term."
• She said her agency was "committed to moving forward to implement this key 9/11 Commission recommendation."
• The commission recommended tougher federal standards for driver's licenses and birth certificates.
• Eighteen of the 19 Sept. 11 hijackers obtained state IDs, some of them fraudulently, easing their movements inside the country.

• Monckton told the Alex Jones Show last week that the  initial secretive draft version of the Copenhagen agreement represented  a global government power grab on an "unimaginable scale,"
• and  mandated the creation of 700 new bureaucracies as well as a colossal raft  of new taxes including 2 percent levies on both GDP and every international  financial transaction.
• Monckton said that the new world government outlined  in the treaty would be handed powers to, "Tax the American economy  to the extent of 2 percent GDP, to impose a further tax of 2 percent on  every financial transaction.and to close down effectively the economies  of the west, transfer your jobs to third world countries."
• As the leak of the Danish text outlined, such taxes,  earmarked as "climate financing," will go straight into the coffers  of the IMF and the World Bank.
• These funds will be used to bankroll the  imposition of global governance that UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon promised  would be achieved at Copenhagen.
• According to the latest news out of Copenhagen, the taxes  that were included in the initial text are still in the final agreement  which is set to be passed later today or in the early hours of Saturday  morning.
• The Sydney Morning Herald reports that the final text,  "Proposes a range of innovative mechanisms for raising the money,  ranging from a tax on air and sea transports fuels to a tax on financial  transfers."
• This would form part of an initial commitment of $10  billion (US) a year from 2010 to 2012, climbing to $50 billion (US) annually  by 2015 and $100 billion (US) by 2020,
• although these figures will inevitably  increase if the UN ramps up its climate fear-mongering as it has done at  each successive climate conference since the Rio Earth Summit in 1992.
• The treaty outlines, "Penalties or fines for non-compliance,"  in developed countries and the creation of an international police force  to "enforce its will by imposing unlimited financial penalties on  any countries whose performance under this treaty they don't like,"  Monckton told the Alex Jones Show, saying that it amounted to a total global  government takeover on an "unimaginable scale".
• "We're looking at a grab for absolute power and  absolute financial control worldwide by the UN and its associated bureaucracies  and 700 new bureaucratic bodies," said Monckton,

• OBAMA'S  DIVISIVE TALK
    NOT GOOD FOR ANYONE

• Barack Obama’s steady decline  in the polls this week may mean the American people are tired of the president’s  divisive campaign rhetoric after nearly a year into his administration.
• The Rasmussen  Report’s daily tracking poll shows 53 percent of Americans disapprove of his  performance in office.
• With an economy  shaking, unemployment rising, and two wars draining our nation’s human and financial  resources, Mr. Obama prefers to use the divisive language of the campaign trail in hopes  of gaining public and political support for economic policies rather than to provide the  leadership his supporters sorely hoped he possessed.
• He demonstrated this us-versus-them  style during his interview on CBS’s 60 Minutes this past Sunday when he used the term  "fat cats" to describe banking executives in line for rather substantial, and  contractual, year-end bonuses.
• As a victim of the tanking economy, one would think I would be the first to shake my  fist at another’s paycheck and bonus. I worked for the last ten years for a state  university system, the last two years assigned to a division that receives the bulk of its  funding from investments.
• University administrators instituted a series of reductions in  force that eliminated my position, which effectively put me on the streets at the start of  the Christmas season with salary and benefits to expire in a few weeks. Administrators  cited my salary as the reason for their decision. My experience, institutional memory, and  contributions to the university had no value to the administration.
• Ken Feinberg is the Obama Administration’s special master for executive  compensation. He distributed $200 million to Vietnam vets suffering from Agent Orange, and  most recently he administered the September 11 Victim Compensation Fund by putting a price  tag on the lives of those who died.
• "Dollars are a surrogate for worth," he told Time Magazine. "When you  start talking about dollars, what people hear is a ruling on their overall integrity and  value to society. It gets difficult."
• Indeed, especially if value to society is a key  factor in compensation calculations.
• The people who collect your trash every week don’t make enough money to take  European vacations, but their value to society rises rather rapidly when they don’t  pick up the trash for several weeks.
• Thanks  to changes in federal compensation guidelines, approved by Congress, the number of federal  employees earning more than $100,000 annually, increased from 14 percent to 19 percent  during the first 18 months of the recession, according to a USA Today study of the federal  salary data base.
• And that’s before overtime and bonuses (by the way, I’ve never  figured out why public employees get bonuses for doing the public’s work).
• And speaking of bonuses, the president forgot his Wall Street executives kept their  bonuses when they joined the administration in January.
• The Wall Street Journal reported  in March that the White House merely "encouraged" them to "review"  their compensation packages. A Citigroup executive took his bonus, but donated it to  charity and, one assumes, wrote off the contribution.
• Watching the president Sunday brought to mind Winston Churchill as he prepared his  country for the possible German invasion of the island after the fall of France.
• "The  massacre on both sides would have been grim and great," he noted in his memoirs.  "I intended to use the slogan, ‘You can always take one with you,’" he  wrote.
• He realized, though, the British people needed strong, positive rhetoric, and  leadership, and not cheap slogans and weak performances from His Majesty’s  government.
• Barack Obama is not a Winston Churchill, but current and coming battles demand more  than empty and divisive rhetoric from the chief executive.

• JERUSALEM – In her first major interview since becoming President Obama's newly appointed anti-Semitism czar last month, Hannah Rosenthal yesterday blasted the Israeli government for its criticism of a lobby group accused of anti-Israel activity.
• Rosenthal characterized as "most unfortunate" a decision by Michael Oren, Israel's ambassador to the United States, to not attend the annual dinner in September of J Street, a lobby group that is mostly led by left-leaning Israelis and that receives funds from Arab and Muslim Americans.
• In an interview yesterday from Jerusalem with Israel's Haaretz newspaper, Rosenthal said Oren "would have learned a lot" if he had participated in J Street's conference
• Rosenthal was in Israel as the Obama administration's envoy to the Foreign Ministry's Global Forum for Combating Anti-Semitism.
• "I came away realizing what a generational divide there is and I don't know how it is in Israel. Young people want to be part of the discussion, they feel they have fresh ideas and they feel that we have to end the stalemate," she said, speaking of the J Street dinner.

• Regarding a recent U.N. report accusing Israel of war crimes during the Jewish state's defensive war in Gaza last year, Rosenthal told Haaretz, "it is not anti-Semitic to look at a certain policy of Israel and say – I disagree with it. Half of the population in Israel isn't anti-Semitic by not agreeing with policies."

• When its ambassador, Oren, refused to attend the annual J Street dinner, Israeli embassy spokesman Yoni Peled told the Jerusalem Post his government has some "concern over certain [J Street] policies that could impair Israel's interests."

• In Madison, with 1.5 percent unemployment, Phelps worked with University of Wisconsin professor and socialist activist Joel Rogers to create a pilot program through the blue-ribbon Economic Summit Council to train workers and match skills with jobs.
• Her husband, Richard Phelps, is an executive from Wisconsin.
• That same year, while running for a seat in the Illinois Senate as a Democrat, Obama actively sought and received the endorsement of the socialist New Party, according to confirmed reports during last year's presidential campaign. Rogers was founder of the New Party.
• The New Party's aim was to help elect politicians who espoused its policies.

• The newspaper lists other politicians it endorsed who were not members but specifies Obama as a New Party member.
• New Ground, the newsletter of Chicago's Democratic Socialists of America, reported in its July/August 1996 edition that Obama attended a New Party membership meeting April 11, 1996, in which he expressed his gratitude for the group's support and "encouraged (New Party members) to join in his task forces on voter education and voter registration."

• A former top member of the New Party recounted in a WND e-mail interview Obama's participation with his organization.   

  "A subcommittee met with (Obama) to interview him to see if his stand on the living wage and similar reforms was the same as ours," recalled Marxist activist Carl Davidson.  

  "We determined that our views on these overlapped, and we could endorse his campaign in the Democratic Party," Davidson said.  
• Davidson was a Chicago member and activist within the New Party. He told WND he handled some of the New Party member databases and attended most of the party's meetings.

• "At the end of our session with him, we simply affirmed there was no need to do so, because on all the key points, the stand of his campaign and the New Party reform planks were practically the same," Davidson told WND.
• The socialist-oriented goals of the New Party were enumerated on its old website.

• Many of the New Party's founding members were Democratic Socialists of America leaders and members of Committees of Correspondence, a breakaway of the Communist Party USA.
• The New Party, established in 1992, took advantage of what was known as electoral "fusion," which enabled candidates to run on two tickets simultaneously, attracting voters from both parties.
• But the New Party went defunct in 1998, one year after fusion was halted by the Supreme Court.
• According to DSA documents, the New Party worked with ACORN to promote its candidates.

• It took a tough question from Matt Lauer, but after having laughably claimed that "the system worked," DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano has now conceded the obvious:
• that the security system that permitted Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab to board NWA 253 with explosives "failed miserably."
• On Today and in other interviews this morning, Napolitano attempted to use her own ignorance as a shield. 
• Each time she was hit with a hard question, her response was to the effect "yeah, we're wondering about that ourselves." 
• She also continued to point the finger back at George Bush, repeatedly mentioning that the security procedures in place were formulated under the Bush administration.
• Whatever happened to "change you can believe in"?
• But back to Today, where Lauer laudably asked Napolitano the necessary question: how could she possibly have claimed, as she did yesterday, that the "system worked"?
• You made a comment over the weekend and I want to call attention to that because a lot of people are disagreeing with it this morning.  You talked about this incident aboard this Northwest flight and you said "when it came right down to it, the system worked."  A lot of people don't think the system worked at all, that the only thing that prevented outright disaster was luck.  Can you respond to that?
• MATT LAUER:
• Sure, I think the comment is being taken out of context. What I'm saying is that once the incident occurred, moving forward, we were immediately able to notify the 128 flights in the air of protective measures to take, immediately able to notify law enforcement on the ground, airports both domestically, internationally, all carriers, all of that happening within 60 to 90 minutes, so

• So you're only talking about what happened after this man tried to ignite this explosive device on the plane.

• You would then concede that the system prior to that, the system that's supposed to prevent something like this from happening, failed miserably?
• It did.  And that's why we are asking a lot of the same questions I heard you asking before this interview.  How did this individual get on the plane? Why wasn't the explosive material detected?  What do we need to do to change perhaps the rules that have been in place since 2006 for moving somebody from the generic database to more elevated status.  All of that under review right now.

• So many man-hours, so much money, Madam Secretary, has gone into securing fliers in this country and around the world, and so let's talk about it: how does a guy who's on this general terror list, who then buys a one-way, trans-Atlantic ticket with cash, checks no luggage, a man whose own father has written a letter to authorities both in his own country and U.S. embassy authorities, saying he's worried that his son has become more radicalized and might attempt some kind of a suicide mission. How is this guy not the perfect candidate for a strip search or a full-body scan?
• NAPOLITANO:
• I've asked the same questions.
• We've got another question: what is Janet Napolitano, head of a department that she now admits "failed miserably," still doing in office?

• Despite all the compromises, it has finally been possible to ensure something so fundamental, as the right of every American not to be financially shipwrecked when their health fails them.
• Add to that the biggest ever financial support package in America’s history, a major disarmament agreement and the quickest-ever re-establishment of American reputation.
• On the other hand, we have Jesus’ miracles that everyone still remembers, but which only benefitted a few.
• At the same time, we have the wonderful parables about his life and deeds that we know from the New Testament, but which have been interpreted so differently over the past 2000 years that it is impossible to give an unequivocal result of his work.
• Obama is, of course, greater than Jesus – if we have to play that absurd Christmas game.
• Uh, right. Even if you don't buy into the theological assertion Jesus is the savior of all mankind -- don't Christians get credit for pretty much inventing the Hospital system as we know it?

  You hit the nail right on the head. He is not serious about protecting ordinary American citizens. He will get some of us killed. 
    
   As for Janet, she should be gone. Her performance was so repugnant that it is difficult even to think about her any longer. 
• The big point, however, is that Obama is far too limited as a person to be president. He is an eloquent young man who occasionally gives a good speech, but he seems incapable of anything beyond that.
• He is not leading his country. He is not leading his Party. He is not leading the United State Military or the Department of Homeland Security. He will be "on watch" when some disaster occurs in the near future and he should be impeached for it. No doubt, he would be relieved to step down.

  With 2 major near-misses in a quarter, it's a foregone conclusion that something very VERY bad will happen within about 6 months. Obama is simply a wimp, just like Jimmy Carter, and every terrorist organization knows it.

I agree with Ron on most issues and even foreign policy. This statement by he was no different, in my opinion, to Rev. Wright saying 9/11 was our chickens coming home to roost. Dang Ron really crushed my support for him.

  Mr Lifson does hit the nail on the head in this piece. It took 72 hours for Obama to take time out from his latest vacation in an $8.9 million mansion playing golf, to make a statement. When he did, it was a pointless flow of vague rhetoric.
• The only thing any intelligent human being can surmise is that this person occupying the White House is so unqualified, and that all his "people" are equally inept that we cannot rely on any information coming from him or them.   This last incident and with Obama passionless response/denials that we are at war has convinced me to not fly again until he is out of office. The President is showing the world that he does not care if Americans get killed. Also I will not Fly because of the soon to be draconian invasion of privacy measures that will be taken it (O'hare airport is installing Full body imaging machines this week). 
   We have no need for this equipment if we just go after and eliminate "ISLAMIC" terrorists.

  We did hear from Palin in an interview with Hannity a couple of months ago when she prophetically stated that we must "profile" in order to stop the terrorists.   WE all knew this was going to happen. Even VP Biden predicted it. Is anyone who has studied this group really surprised at their reaction (or lack there of)? I was never one to dislike Bush/Cheney, but then I lived a couple of miles from the Pentagon during 9/11, so I probably had a different perspective. People called them cowboys, but man, do I wish the cowboys were still there.  
    Some of our people are going to get hurt or killed. This is not a guess, this is an almost sure prediction, with this group of lawyers running things. We've had 3 attacks now. Most people forget about the one in Arizona at the recruitment center. 
    This president has no grasp of how the REAL world works and we should be scared, real scared. We have at least 3 more yrs. of this. If something happens to Pres. O THEN what do we get? BIDEN! Who knows, he may be better than Pres. O, don't think he could be worse (or could he?). 
• I hope it doesn't take more attacks to open eyes, but I'm afraid it may take that, horrible as it is to say.

• President Obama has acknowledged that the United States had early signals that a terrorist attack was being plotted in Yemen and failed to take adequate steps to prevent it.
• According to a page one story in the New York Times, two federal officials told the paper that U.S. intelligence was aware that a Nigerian Muslim was preparing an attack, yet officials did nothing to give warning of such an attack.
• The paper reported Wednesday: "Two officials said the government had intelligence from Yemen before Friday that leaders of a branch of Al Qaeda were talking about 'a Nigerian' being prepared for a terrorist attack."
• Although the attacker was not named, officials said his identity would have been evident had it been compared with information about Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab,
• the 23-year-old Nigerian charged with trying to blow up an American passenger jet on Christmas Day.
• But despite those signals, the administration never raised a terror alert, and would-be bomber Abdulmutallab was allowed to board a plane bound for the United States.
• Critics also have charged that, although al-Qaida has engaged in multiple terror attacks at the same time and has promised more attacks soon, the administration has yet to raise Homeland Security's terror threat level. It  remains at "yellow" or "elevated" — as it has for several years.
• Obama was told at a briefing on Tuesday that U.S. officials had information that would have warned clearly of a pending attack if agencies had shared the information, The New York Times reported.

• Then he stuck it right back in.
• Obama, in a brief address from Hawaii, did manage to utter the "T" word: "A full investigation has been launched into this attempted act of terrorism." But he refused to define the nature of the threat.

• Nor did he fire Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano -- a pity, because if any government official ever earned the boot, it's her.

• The bomber's own father warned US officials in October that his son had fallen in with Islamic radicals.
• Abdulmutallab himself reportedly told federal officials he trained with al Qaeda in Yemen -- and, for what it's worth, al Qaeda in Yemen confirms that.
• And ABC News reported yesterday that two of Abdulmutallab's Yemeni trainers had been released from Guantanamo Bay to the Saudis in 2007 -- and then set free after (no joke) "art therapy rehabilitation."
• Meanwhile, Brian Jenkins of the Rand Corporation reports 12 incidents of Islamist terror either in the United States or involving Americans abroad in 2009, the most in any year since 9/11. (These include the Fort Hood massacre.)

• See the trend line?

  Obama refuses to.
• "Those who would attack our country" is how he described the jihadis -- a formulation he used four times in his brief address.

• But if the president refuses to define the enemy, how can he expect America to defend against that enemy?

  No wonder Napolitano is so confused.
• No reasonable person believes that terror screening can ever be foolproof. But Americans need full confidence that their government is addressing the problem as vigorously as possible.

• This would require Obama to order two basic changes in anti-terror policy:

  * Captured terrorists need to be treated as such -- and not as common criminals. Abdulmutallab needs to disappear down a black hole somewhere, and stay there until the war on terror is over. No criminal trials for terrorists.

  * Homeland Security needs to quit pretending little old ladies from the heartland pose a security threat and institute an intelligent traveler-profiling policy that targets Middle Eastern males.
• Certainly, Abdulmutallab's attack was instructive: Who knew it was so easy to waltz through security with high explosives stuffed down one's pants?
• But while odds are that some equally imaginative jihadist will someday succeed, a comprehensive, focused anti-terror policy will make that much less likely.

  All organizational systems and strategies require competent, committed executive management that is capable of leading, not just relying on an adopted plan. The people at HSA and TSA have had neither in this administration. If you have a security or intelligence organization operating with a two year old fixed blueprint that is fighting a dynamic foe, then you’re not doing your job. The buck stops on the President’s desk, nor the former occupant.

• Why Immunity for Interpol?   [Andy McCarthy]
• I asked here a week ago why President Obama decided it was suddenly necessary to place the international police agency, Interpol, above the constraints of American law.
• There has been no answer, but the question is is not going away — not until the President explains himself.
• This morning, I had the pleasure of spending a few minutes with Rick Santorum, who — even on New Year's Day — was pulling his usual Friday duty as host of Bill Bennett's show.
• The plan was to talk about the Christmas airplane terror attack,
• but the first caller, who was very well-informed and alarmed, wanted to talk about Interpol. I don't blame her.
• Mark points out something I'd forgotten:
• Mark Tapscott has thoughts at the Washington Examiner. 
• "Interpol and ICC [the Intenrational Criminal Court] ... took seriously Iran's Oct. 3, 2009, request that 25 top Israeli civilian and military officials be placed on the international 'Most Wanted' list because of their actions in Gaza against murderous Palestinian radicals."
• Mark also observes that an Obama offical told the New York Times that the administration has not explained the President's decision to immunize Interpol because — notwithstanding that the President took pains to amend a longstanding, Reagan-era executive order (EO 12425) and the White House issued a press release announcing tha the had done so — "there is nothing newsworthy here." 
• [By the way, I love the fact that, to Charlie Gibson and the rest of the Obama press office at the Times, the interesting part of this story is not the immunization of a police force but the fact that Obama's decision "irks conservatives."]

• If there is nothing newsworthy involved, then why won't the White House answer these basic questions regarding the EO?
• * Every other international organization granted such exemptions deals with mundane issues like fish - the International Pacific Halibut Commission - or disaster aid - the Red Cross.
• But Interpol is a law enforcement operation.
• Why does President Obama think it appropriate to give such exemptions to an international law enforcement operation, and what does he want Interpol to do here in the U.S. in the future with the exemptions that it cannot do now without the exemptions?
• * Does the search and seizure exemption extend to the activities and documents created by U.S. Department of Justice employees working with and for Interpol in New York and Washington, D.C.?
• If these employees and activities were already exempt from coverage of the federal Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), why have FOIA requests concerning them been previously answered?
• Good questions.  When do we get the answers?

• Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack has ordered his staff to revise a computerized forecasting model that showed that climate legislation supported by President Obama would make planting trees more lucrative than producing food.

• The latest Agriculture Department economic-impact study of the climate bill, which passed the House this summer, found that the legislation would profit farmers in the long term.
• But those profits would come mostly from higher crop prices as a result of the legislation's incentives to plant more forests and thus reduce the amount of land devoted to food-producing agriculture.

• the legislation would give landowners incentives to convert up to 59 million acres of farmland into forests over the next 40 years.

• "If landowners plant trees to the extent the model suggests, this would be disruptive to agriculture in some regions of the country," he said.
• He said the Forest and Agricultural Sector Optimization Model (FASOM), created by researchers at Texas A&M University, does not take into account other provisions in the House-passed bill, which would boost farmers' income while they continue to produce food. Those omissions, he said, cause the model to overestimate the potential for increased forest planting.
• Mr. Vilsack said he has directed his chief economist to work with the EPA to "undertake a review of the assumptions in the FASOM model, to update the model and to develop options on how best to avoid unintended consequences for agriculture that might result from climate change legislation."
• The legislation would give free emissions credits, known as offsets, to farmers and landowners who plant forests and adopt low-carbon farm and ranching practices.
• That revenue would help the farmers deal with an expected rise in fuel and fertilizer costs.

• When the detective went to Lindblad’s apartment to question   him, he noticed crayon drawings by children on the refrigerator and observed   Lindblad cutting pictures of young boys out of catalogues.”
• NAMBLA   says about Jennings: “We don’t know if Mr. Jennings supports   us or not. We do know that he supports efforts to make schools places   where gay kids and straight kids and kids who don’t fit into either   of those categories can go and not be bullied or harassed or made to feel   like any less of a person—and that is a goal we too support.”
• In fact,   as the Lindblad case shows, NAMBLA is an organization whose members conspire   to sexually abuse children.
• NAMBLA members look for opportunities to get   into close contact with children. Pro-homosexual efforts in the schools   provide that opportunity.
• Hay,   who inspired Jennings, was not apparently a formal member of NAMBLA.
• But   former FBI agent Hamer told Accuracy in Media that the NAMBLA membership   list was secret and it is impossible to know for sure.
• “I never   heard a NAMBLA member say that Hay was not a member,” Hamer said.   In fact, Hay spoke favorably of NAMBLA, including at the organization’s   conferences.

• The   “Hope Along the Wind” film explains: “Many American   Communists would leave the party when Joseph Stalin’s reign of terror   in the Soviet Union could no longer be denied. But when Harry Hay left   in 1950 his reasons were very different.”
• In other   words, Hay remained a Stalinist.
• “During   his years in New York City, between 1939 and 1942, when he had access   to the [Communist] Party’s library, he read the historical writings   of Marx and Engels and took advanced classes in Marxist theory with the   intention of becoming a Party educator,”
• says Radically Gay:   Gay Liberation in the Words of Its Founder.
• In fact, Hay did become   a CPUSA “educator.”
• Reports   of the California Senate Fact-finding Committee on Un-American Activities   identify Hay by name as an instructor during the 1940s at the California   Labor School, a CPUSA front whose purpose was to “teach, advocate   and propagandize Marxism-Leninism.”
• Hay is described as a leader   in the party in charge of communist-style entertainment activities.
• Hay   was summoned to appear before the House Committee on Un-American Activities   in 1954 to testify about his CPUSA membership. But because he was officially   out of the party by then, he refused to talk about it.
• His   real contribution to communism in America was developing the idea that   homosexuals, like the “workers” under capitalism, were being   oppressed and had to assert their “rights.”
• Although some   CPUSA officials disapproved of the homosexual lifestyle, the Hay approach   was seen as a means by which American society could be subverted and undermined.
• Some   have claimed that Hay was “expelled” from the CPUSA,
• but the   film explains that Hay realized he needed to leave the Communist Party   so that he could do his work organizing the Mattachine Society, the first   official “gay rights” group, on a more effective basis.
• This   is explained through interviews with Hay and Miriam Sherman, a Communist   Party organizer who served as Hay’s “boss” in the party.
• Needless   to say, the documented communist origin of the “gay rights”   movement in the U.S. is not a subject you will see highlighted by “gay   rights” groups or discussed on the MSNBC cable show hosted by lesbian   commentator Rachel Maddow.
• While   Jennings praised a communist pervert, his boss, President Barack Obama,   was mentored by one.
• Obama’s childhood mentor, Frank   Marshall Davis, was under FBI   surveillance and a security risk because of his CPUSA membership.
• Davis wrote a biographical novel, Sex   Rebel, about having sex with children and engaging in other forms   of bizarre sexual activity.
• The   entire relationship was sanitized by Obama and his campaign, with Davis   being described as a civil rights activist.
• As if   the Jennings controversy wasn’t enough, Obama has now appointed   Amanda Simpson, who describes herself as “one of the first transgender   appointees to the federal government,” as a senior technical adviser   to the Commerce Department.
• Other reports say that Simpson, a member of   the board of the National Center for Transgender Equality (NCTE) for the   past three years, is the first openly transgender presidential appointee.
• NCTE,   like the Center for American Progress, is funded by the Open Society Institute   of billionaire George Soros.
• NCTE received $50,000 from the Open Society   Institute in 2007.
• The Soros group gave $70,000 to the Transgender Law   Center in San Francisco in the same year.
• The   Jennings-founded group, the Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network (GLSEN),   is a member, along with Simpson’s NCTE, of the “New   Beginning Initiative” to encourage the Obama Administration   to make policy changes to benefit the “gay, lesbian, bisexual and   transgender community.”
• “We   would like to thank the Open Society Institute for their generous funding   of this initiative,” the announcement says.
• The   amount is $355,000 over two years, provided through a special “Seize   the Day” fund to “support transformational change in the   United States.”
• The   announcement of this new initiative was made only about two months after   the Jennings appointment became known.
• “The   global economic crisis and recent changes in the U.S. political environment   have elevated the risks and opportunities for building a better society,   resulting in a ‘perfect storm’ for transformative change in   America,” declares the Open Society Institute.
• The   “storm” has arrived, courtesy of Obama and appointees such   as Jennings and Simpson.

• Harry   Hay, who “inspired” Obama-appointed Education Department official   Kevin Jennings to lead a life of homosexual activism, was not only a supporter   of the North American Man-Boy Love Association (NAMBLA) but a prominent   member of the Communist Party USA and “Radical Faerie”
• who   believed in the power of the occult.
• Hay’s   influence is relevant not only because Jennings is a top Education Department   official, but because Hay is considered by homosexuals to be the founder   of their movement.
• A Stalinist and Marxist until the day he died,
• Hay   defended NAMBLA’s participation in “gay rights” marches   and its membership in the International Lesbian and Gay Association.
• But   the controversy over Jennings, which had been growing since his appointment   in May, has been skillfully deflected by some journalists and commentators   who have been attacking the government of Uganda for considering a law   that would toughen laws against homosexual behavior that threatens public   health and children.
• “Uganda wants to execute people for being gay,”   lesbian commentator Rachel Maddow asserted on her MSNBC program on December   2.
• She called it the “kill-the-gays bill” and demanded that   Christians in the U.S. denounce it.
• Jumping   on the story, the New York Times has claimed the bill would “impose   a death sentence for homosexual behavior.”
• These   claims are flat-out disinformation.
• Dr. Scott Lively, who visited Uganda in March of 2009 to encourage efforts   to protect traditional family values,
• says the proposed death penalty   in the bill, just one of many provisions, is for “aggravated homosexuality,”   which is actually pederasty, pedophilia, homosexual parent/child incest,   homosexual abuse of a disabled ward, and knowingly spreading AIDS.
• Dr.   Lively is the author of The   Pink Swastika and the president of Abiding   Truth Ministries.
• “I   do not support the proposed anti-homosexuality law as written,”   Lively   says. “It does not emphasize rehabilitation over punishment   and the punishment that it calls for is unacceptably harsh.
• However, if   the offending sections were sufficiently modified, the proposed law would   represent an encouraging step in the right direction.
• As one of the first   laws of this century to recognize that the destructiveness of the ‘gay’   agenda warrants opposition by government, it would deserve support from   Christian believers and other advocates of marriage-based culture around   the world.”
• Lively   says that the legislation is a response to the history of the country,   where Christians were persecuted and even killed for resisting the homosexuality   of King Mwanga, a violent pedophile,
• and to the modern-day problem, which   involves “homosexual political activists from Europe and the United   States [who] are working aggressively to re-homosexualize their nation.”
• June   3, a public holiday called Martyrs’   Day, is set aside in the nation to remember the Christians killed   by the pedophile King in 1886.
• In terms   of the present threat, Lively explains,
• “Ugandan citizens report   a growing number of foreign homosexual men coming to their country to   turn desperately poor young men from the slums into their personal houseboys,   and that some girls in public schools have been paid to recruit others   into lesbianism.”

• It would   appear that the purpose of the orchestrated controversy over the proposed   law in Uganda is to divert attention from the real scandal involving Obama   Education Department official Kevin Jennings and his praise for the founder   of the modern gay rights movement, Harry Hay,
• a supporter of adult-child   sex.
• This   is the real scandal—the degree to which the homosexual movement   tolerates pedophiles in its midst and regards a champion of pedophilia   as a hero.
• As disclosed   by Peter LaBarbera’s Americans for Truth organization, Jennings   said in 1997 that Hay should serve as an inspiration. “One of the   people that’s always inspired me is Harry Hay, who started the first   ongoing gay rights group in America,” he said.
• Jennings   didn’t mention that Hay actively campaigned for the “rights”   of pedophiles and publicly supported NAMBLA.
• But Jennings had to be aware   of this fact. Two popular books about Hay—Radically Gay,   edited by Will Roscoe and published in 1996, and The Trouble With   Harry Hay, written by Stuart Timmons and published in 1990—documented   Hay’s support for NAMBLA.
• These books were issued by pro-homosexual   or left-wing book publishers and popular among “gay” activists   like Jennings.
• The   Timmons book shows Hay wearing a “NAMBLA walks with me” sign   at a “gay rights” demonstration.
• Although Hay apparently never   formally joined the organization, he spoke about his support for NAMBLA   on many different occasions, including at NAMBLA conferences.
• Jennings   was announced as the Assistant Deputy Secretary, Office of Safe &   Drug Free Schools, in the Department of Education on May 19.
• His official   biography   mentions his role in creating an organization, the Gay, Lesbian, Straight   Education Network (GLSEN), which is supposed to provide factual information   about the history of the “gay rights” movement to teachers   and students.
• But the references to Hay in GLSEN literature fail to include   anything about his CPUSA, pro-NAMBLA or Radical Faerie activities.
• More   to the point, GLSEN recommends a book Jennings himself edited entitled,   Becoming Visible: A Reader in Gay and Lesbian History for High School   and College Students, which includes a favorable profile of Harry   Hay by Timmons. Indeed, the material is from the Timmons book.
• So the   idea that Jennings was unfamiliar with Hay’s pro-NAMBLA record is   simply impossible to believe.
• It is the case that Hay supported the criminal   sexual exploitation of children and the evidence indicates that Jennings   knew about this but that his organization concealed the information from   those who had a right to know about it.
• Hay’s   support for NAMBLA grew out of his own sexual relationships as a child   with adult predators.
• In his own twisted and bizarre world, Hay says he   ultimately found the sexual abuse to be beneficial. By his own admission,   he had a terrible relationship with his father, who beat him.
• In the   article, “Our Beloved Gay/Lesbian Movement at a Crossroads,”   Hay maintained that real child molestation involved the “sexual   coercion of Gay and Lesbian youth into heterosexual identities and behaviors.”
• Hay believed that homosexuals “should unite to sue the whole guilty   hetero community for compensation” for practicing this “heterosexual   coercion” on “Gay kids.”
• The   praise of Hay by Jennings has led to questions about Jennings’s   relationship with NAMBLA itself.
• “We don’t know if Mr. Jennings   supports us or not,” is all that a NAMBLA spokesman   says. NAMBLA has a whole   section of its website devoted to Hay.
• LaBarbera   contends that “It would seem fairly easy for Jennings to clarify   his position on NAMBLA—all he has to do is issue a clear statement   of his opposition to this evil ‘man-boy love’ organization.”
• But   even if he were to condemn NAMBLA in strong terms, there is still the   matter of why his organization, which targets young people, promotes a   favorable book about a communist pervert.
