• During a floor speech, he excoriated Senate GOP members for up holding the pending health care bill and accused their supporters of being birthers and fanatics in right-wing militia and Aryan support groups.
• Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) today took shots at those who are not supporting the health care legislation.
• He started off by citing an editorial from the Manchester Journal Inquirer, which used insults like "lunatic fringe.":
• “Let's Look At What Current Observers Are Saying As A Possible Early Indicator Of The Judgment History Will Inflict. Recently, The Editor Of The Manchester Journal Inquirer Editorial Page Wrote Of The  Current G.O.P. Which He Called ‘This Once Great And Now Mostly Shameful Party,’ That ‘It Has Gone Crazy, Is More And More Dominated By The Lunatic Fringe And Has Poisoned Itself With Hate.’ He Concluded, ‘They No Longer Want To Govern. They Want To Emote.’ A Well Regarded Philadelphia Columnist Recently Wrote Of The Conservative Paranoia And Lunacy On The Republican Right.”
• After explaining why absent GOP members who did not vote for the Department of Defense spending bill was tantamount to a "no" vote, he went on to say that Republicans and their supporters just want to "break" the momentum of President Obama.:
• "Voting 'no' and hiding from the vote are the same result. Those of us on the floor see it. It was clear the three of them who did not cast their yes votes until all 60 Senate votes had been tallied and it was clear that the result was a foregone conclusion. And why? Why all this discord and discourtesy, all this unprecedented destructive action? All to break the momentum of our new young president.
• They are desperate to break this president. They have ardent supporters who are nearly hysterical at the very election of President Barack Obama.

• I approached (AUDIO) Senator Whitehouse following his speech on the floor, and his responses to my questions were puzzling, to say the say the least.

• He did reiterate that birthers are part of the group that is against the bill and are attacking president  However, when I asked the Senator from Rhode Island what he meant by describing those who do not support the bill as "aryan," he responded "No, I didn't say that....again, pay attention to the speech."

• Health bill money for hospital sought by Dodd

• A $100 million item for construction of a university hospital was inserted in the Senate health care bill at the request of Sen. Christopher Dodd, D-Conn., who faces a difficult re-election campaign, his office said Sunday night.
• The legislation leaves it up to the Health and Human Services Department to decide where the money should be spent, although spokesman Bryan DeAngelis said Dodd hopes to claim it for the University of Connecticut.
• The provision is included in a 383-page series of changes to the health care bill that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., outlined Saturday.
• Scattered throughout are numerous items sought by individual lawmakers, many of them directing money explicitly to programs or projects in their home states.
• The one sought by Dodd provides $100 million for "a health care facility that provides research, inpatient tertiary care, or outpatient clinical services."
• It must be affiliated with an academic health center at a public research university in the United States "that contains a State's sole public academic medical and dental school."
• The money can cover a maximum of 40 percent of the facility's construction costs.
• Based on the criteria set out on the bill, it appeared that state-affiliated hospitals in about a dozen states could compete for the funds.
• Dodd has played a key role in development of the health care bill in the Senate.

• The   bill and all actions taken thus far can be found by clicking   here and, in the search slot, entering "H.R. 3590", clicking   on "Bill Number" then clicking "SEARCH".
• (This procedure   will work for any bill you wish to look at.)
• How   your Senator voted on cloture December 21, 2009, in the middle of the   night, can   be found here and also accessible under "All Congressional Actions   with Amendments" when H.R. 3590 is put in the search slot on the   main page of thomas.loc.gov. The vote was all Democrats (60) voting "yes"   and all Republicans (40) voting "no".
• You   will note that this bill, voted on by the Senate, is not a Senate bill;   it is a House bill. How can it be that a House bill was used to introduce   language written by the Senate?
• A House   bill was used, its language stricken and substituted by Senator Reid and   his co-conspirators, because the Senate cannot, constitutionally, introduce   a bill that appropriates money.
• As such,   the Senate's way of circumventing this is to take a House bill, sent to   the Senate after House passage, and strike the language and introduce   language written by Senators.
• Is this   constitutional?
• Let's put it this way, that was not what was intended   when the Constitution was written.
• But then, the Constitution, in the   words of John Adams, was written for a moral and religious people; being   wholly inadequate for people who have no morals, no conscience and certainly   no principles or standards; who believe right and wrong are situational,   pliant to whatever their agenda is.
• That   pretty much covers those currently "elected" to serve the people   in Washington DC.
• Their sole purpose is to circumvent what the Constitution   says in pursuit of their own unconstitutional agenda.
• To that end, what   the Constitution requires is just something to be ignored.
• We've seen   this happen time and again, including on January 8, 2009, when the Senate   and House, in contravention to Article II, Section I, Clause 5, United   States Constitution, certified the election of an illegal alien as president.
• It is   telling, indeed, that Senator Harry Reid scheduled the vote on H.R. 3590   for the middle of the night, being the unethical, amoral coward that he   is.
• Quite obviously, Reid believed this middle of the night vote would   keep Senators from incurring the ire of the 70% of Americans who oppose   Obama Deathcare.
• Calls   to the Capital Hill Switchboard, beginning at 12 p.m EST approximate,   resulted in the caller being 1) hung up on; 2) forwarded to their Senator's   voice mail which was either full or shut off; or 3) forwarded to a dead-end   recording.
• The switchboard refused to forward calls to the Senate floor   and refused to get messages to Senators.
• Quite obviously, this was deliberate,   the ultimate in arrogance because Senators, knowing that 70% of the American   people do not want the Obama Deathcare Bill, think they can cram it down   our throats, irrespective.
• Telling   also, is that all 2,076   pages of H.R. 3590, was not posted in the form of H.R. 3590 but rather   as Senate Amendment 2786, cosponsored by Baucus (D-MT), Dodd (D-CT) and   Harkin (D-IA).
• Want   to wager on how many of the Senators have actually read that 2,076 page   amendment to know what is in it?
• Senators   Patty Murray (D-WA) and Maria Cantwell (D-WA), being the good little Marxist   Obamanoids that they are, went along like the good little sheep that they   are, and voted for cloture on H.R. 3590;
• even though the only people in   Washington State who want government run healthcare are the multitude   of illegal aliens to whom both Murray and Cantwell pander, and the never-do-wells   who, because of their own poor choices, do not have health care coverage   and want someone else to pay for their poor choices.
• Those types always   vote for people with no morals, no principles and not values who believe,   as Marxists do, that wealth should be redistributed from those who have   made good and wise choices to those who have made poor and detrimental   choices.
• Murray   and Cantwell see absolutely nothing wrong with 70% of Washingtonians working   and paying taxes so the other 30% who don't work can live off the backs   of those who do work.
• That's called "being empathetic" in Murray's   and Cantwell's view.
• Of course,   at the same time, Murray and Cantwell aren't willing to give up their   millions to the cause; just the taxpayer's hard-earned wages.
• To date,   Senator Patty Murray has amassed a campaign war chest of close to a $1,000,000.
• Interestingly, her campaign war chest comes from four sources that should   be of note, particularly in this instance, to every Washingtonian: political   action committees (PAC's) outside Washington State, pharmaceutical companies,   medical groups, and insurance companies.
• While   it's bad enough that Murray is obviously bought and paid for (isn't that   what a whore is?) by PAC's outside Washington State, it is equally obvious   that while Murray has worked diligently to convince the people of Washington   State that her stand on the Obama Deathcare Bill was in the best interests   of the people of Washington State, to whom Murray was and really is beholden   is the pharmaceutical companies, medical groups and insurance companies   who stand to increase their profits under the Obama Deathcare Bill at   the expense of Washington residents.
• Who   wins is the very companies, groups and organizations that Murray has railed   against; who loses are the people of Washington State, in the loss of   health-care benefits and mediocre care that will result, and in the increase   in taxes and healthcare premiums.
• Senator   Patty Murray comes up for re-election in 2010. She has adamantly refused   to listen to the majority of the people of Washington State who told her   to vote against H.R. 3590.
• It's   time Patty Murray becomes unemployed. Let's make it happen.
• If your   Senator comes up for election in 2010 and voted for the Obama Deathcare   Bill, start working now to make sure he/she does not get re-elected.
• Work   to elect people, both Senate and House, who will pledge to repeal every   illegal and unconstitutional bill that has been passed since the Oval   Office was seized by the Marxist illegal alien usurper, Also Known As   (AKA) Barack Hussein Obama.

• Grayson Wants Critic Jailed for Claiming to be His Constituent

• Rep. Alan Grayson, D-Fla., is asking U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder to launch an investigation into a Web site launched by a Republican activist that parodies his own re-election site.
• My, my, my. Florida Rep. Alan Grayson wants to see one of his critics go directly to jail -- all over her use of the word "my."
• In an effort to raise money against the outspoken freshman Democrat, a Republican activist named Angie Langley has launched "mycongressmanisnuts.com" -- a Web site that parodies Grayson's re-election site, "congressmanwithguts.com."
• Langley criticizes Grayson on her Web site for his "inappropriate behavior" and "childish approach" toward governing, and claims he "does not represent the values of central Florida."
• She said in an interview with Fox News on Tuesday that she launched the site in an effort "to expose him (Grayson) for what he is."
• But Grayson is not amused, and he is asking U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder to conduct an investigation into the Web site and Langley, according to a report in the Orlando Sentinel.
• In a four-page letter sent to Holder, Grayson accuses Langley of lying to federal elections and requests that she be fined and imprisoned for five years.

• "Ms. Langley has deliberately masqueraded as a constituent of mine, in order to try to create the false appearance that she speaks for constituents who don't support me," Grayson writes in his complaint.
• "[She] has chosen a name for her committee that is utterly tasteless and juvenile."
• Langley defended herself Tuesday, saying that she was "born and raised" in Grayson's district and is "embarrassed to be represented" by him in Washington.  
• "This is the United States of America. A member of Congress represents all of us -- no matter where we live," she said.  
• He received national attention in September for saying on the House floor during the debate over health care reform that Republicans want sick people to "die quickly."
• Grayson has been high on the headline list for the last few months.
• He apologized in October for calling a female adviser to Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke a "whore."
• The congressman, who is Jewish, was also reprimanded by the Anti-Defamation League for calling the current health care system a "holocaust in America."

• Rep. Stupak: White House Pressuring Me to Keep Quiet on Abortion Language in Senate Health Bill

• (CNSNews.com) - Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.) said the White House and the Democratic leadership in the House of Representatives have been pressuring him not to speak out on the "compromise" abortion language in the Senate version of the health care bill.

• “They think I shouldn’t be expressing my views on this bill until they get a chance to try to sell me the language,” Stupak told CNSNews.com in an interview on Tuesday.
• “Well, I don’t need anyone to sell me the language. I can read it. I’ve seen it. I’ve worked with it. I know what it says. I don’t need to have a conference with the White House. I have the legislation in front of me here.”
• The Michigan Democrat succeeded last month in getting 64 House Democrats to join him in attaching his pro-life amendment to the House version of the health-care bill.
• The “Stupak amendment,” as the provision is known, would prohibit the federal government from allocating taxpayer money to pay for any part of any health insurance plan that covers abortion except in cases of rape, incest, or when the life of the mother is in danger. 
• Stupak had contact with the White House last weekend, when the Senate voted 60 to 40 in the wee hours of Monday morning to shut off debate on the Senate version of the bill.
• The current version of the Senate bill contains so-called “compromise” language crafted by Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.).
• This language does not bar taxpayer funding of health plans that cover abortion, but does create a firewall to supposedly keep federal money from being used to pay for abortions. 
• Over the weekend, Stupak issued a statement calling the proposed Senate language "unacceptable."
• "A review of the Senate language indicates a dramatic shift in federal policy that would allow the federal government to subsidize insurance policies with abortion coverage," said the statement.
• In his interview with CNSNews.com on Tuesday, Stupak said that the White House "asked me just to hold off for awhile and not to say anything about this language.
• But as soon as the news broke that they had this [compromise], and they got the 60 votes, folks were asking me, and I’m not going to run from the issue I’m going to stand up and say, ‘Look, here’s my objections.' Here – it’s not just my objections – but there’s a number of my [colleagues] who feel strongly about this issue, and these are the parts that have to be fixed.”
• Stupak said he is not alone in being pressured from the White House and the House Democratic leadership –
• other pro-life Democratic colleagues apparently are, as well. But they plan to hold firm, he said.
• “We’re getting a lot of pressure not to say anything, to try to compromise this principle or belief,” Stupak said.
• “[T]hat’s just not us. We’re not going to do that. Members who voted for the Stupak language in the House – especially the Democrats, 64 Democrats that voted for it – feel very strongly about it.
• It’s been part of who we are, part of our make up. It’s the principle belief that we have. We are not just going to abandon it in the name of health care."
• When asked if he has the votes he needs to stop the bill if, in its final version, it does not include the language of his amendment or nearly identical language, Stupak did not answer directly.
• “Well, if all the issues are resolved and we’re down to the pro-life view or, I should say, no public funding for abortion, there’s at least 10 to 12 members who have said, repeatedly, unless this language is fixed and current law is maintained, and no public funding for abortion," said Stupak.
• "There’s 10 or 12 of us, and they only passed the bill by 3 votes, so they’re going to be short  8 to 9, maybe 6 to 8 votes. So they [Democrats] do not have the votes to pass it in the House.”
• Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said he wants a vote on a final bill before Christmas.
• After that, a House-Senate conference could convene in early January to merge the Senate and House versions of the bill and lead to a final vote by both chambers.

• Ben   Nelson Attacks Pro-Life Advocates, Defends Pro-Abortion Compromise

• In comments   both on and off the Senate floor yesterday and today, Nelson lashed   out at pro-life advocates and is defending his much-maligned compromise.
• In   a Senate floor speech on Tuesday, Nelson defended the abortion language   he added to the Senate-passed   health care bill.
• He   said when his legitimate amendment to ban abortions failed, he compromised.

• "I   began the process of trying to find other solutions that I thought   equally walled off the use of federal funds and made it clear that   no federal funds would be used," he claimed.
• However,   as the head of Nebraska Right to Life informed LifeNews.com, Nelson   ditched pro-life advocates by   refusing to allow them to provide analysis on the language --   which ultimately was found by every pro-life group to fund abortions.
• Upset   that he is now regarded as a sellout, Nelson struck back.
• "Now,   apparently I didn't say, 'Mother, may I?' in the process of writing   that language because others took issue with it, even though they   cannot constructively point out how it doesn't prohibit the use of   federal funds or wall off those funds or keep them totally segregated.   They just didn't like the language," he said.
• "You   know, it's unfortunate, though, to continue to distort and misrepresent   what happens here in the body of the Senate. It's difficult enough   to have committees, difficult enough to have cooperation. It's difficult   enough to have collegiality. When politics are put above policy and   productivity, this is what we get," he continued.
• Nelson   said he would be "happy" if the Stupak or original Nelson   amendment holds up in the conference committee.
• Meanwhile,   Nelson is coming under fire from the Washington Times, which ran an   editorial on Tuesday condemning his compromise as pro-abortion.
• The   Times says, "On Page 41 (lines 5-8) of Senate Majority Leader   Harry Reid's manager amendment, the proposed rules mandate that everyone   buying insurance through new exchanges or through the new government-run   plan must pay a monthly abortion premium to be used for elective abortion   services."
• That means that people who have no possibility of wanting an abortion   themselves will pay for others to have them.
• "This   fee applies 'without regard to the enrollee's age, sex or family status.'

• In an interview yesterday from Jerusalem with Israel's Haaretz newspaper, Rosenthal said Oren "would have learned a lot" if he had participated in J Street's conference
• Rosenthal was in Israel as the Obama administration's envoy to the Foreign Ministry's Global Forum for Combating Anti-Semitism.
• "I came away realizing what a generational divide there is and I don't know how it is in Israel. Young people want to be part of the discussion, they feel they have fresh ideas and they feel that we have to end the stalemate," she said, speaking of the J Street dinner.

• The Israeli government, meanwhile, has been distancing itself from J Street.
• When its ambassador, Oren, refused to attend the annual J Street dinner, Israeli embassy spokesman Yoni Peled told the Jerusalem Post his government has some "concern over certain [J Street] policies that could impair Israel's interests."
• The Powerline blog previously documented how far-leftist Israelis are influential in the J Street leadership, including former Knesset Speaker Avrum Burg, who generated controversy when he stated, "To define the state of Israel as a Jewish state is the key to its end."

• Hannah Rosenthal, a former Health Department regional director under the Clinton administration, started her position last month as the State Department's special envoy to monitor and combat anti-Semitism.
• She previously headed the Jewish Council for Public Affairs, an umbrella U.S. Jewish organization.
• Rosenthal was a community organizer who became involved in the anti-war and civil-rights movements in the 1960s.
• Her husband, Richard Phelps, is an executive from Wisconsin.
• In Madison, with 1.5 percent unemployment, Phelps worked with University of Wisconsin professor and socialist activist Joel Rogers to create a pilot program through the blue-ribbon Economic Summit Council to train workers and match skills with jobs.
• That same year, while running for a seat in the Illinois Senate as a Democrat, Obama actively sought and received the endorsement of the socialist New Party, according to confirmed reports during last year's presidential campaign. Rogers was founder of the New Party.
• The New Party's aim was to help elect politicians who espoused its policies.
• The New Party worked alongside the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or ACORN.
• Among New Party members was linguist and radical activist Noam Chomsky.
• Obama's campaign last year denied the then-presidential candidate was ever an actual member of the New Party.
• But the New Zeal blog dug up print copies of the New Party News, the party's official newspaper, which show Obama posing with New Party leaders, listing him as a New Party member and printing quotes from him as a member.
• The party's spring 1996 newspaper boasted: "New Party members won three other primaries this Spring in Chicago: Barack Obama (State Senate), Michael Chandler (Democratic Party Committee) and Patricia Martin (Cook County Judiciary)."
• The paper quoted Obama saying, "These victories prove that small-'d' democracy can work."
• The newspaper lists other politicians it endorsed who were not members but specifies Obama as a New Party member.
• New Ground, the newsletter of Chicago's Democratic Socialists of America, reported in its July/August 1996 edition that Obama attended a New Party membership meeting April 11, 1996, in which he expressed his gratitude for the group's support and "encouraged (New Party members) to join in his task forces on voter education and voter registration."

• A former top member of the New Party recounted in a WND e-mail interview Obama's participation with his organization.   

  "A subcommittee met with (Obama) to interview him to see if his stand on the living wage and similar reforms was the same as ours," recalled Marxist activist Carl Davidson.  

  "We determined that our views on these overlapped, and we could endorse his campaign in the Democratic Party," Davidson said.  
• Davidson was a Chicago member and activist within the New Party. He told WND he handled some of the New Party member databases and attended most of the party's meetings.
• Davidson is also a notorious far-left activist and former radical national leader in the anti-Vietnam movement. He served as national secretary for the infamous Students for a Democratic Society anti-war group, from which the Weatherman domestic terrorist organization later splintered.
• Davidson remembers Obama attending one New Party meeting to thank attendees for voting for him.
• Davidson said that to his knowledge Obama was not a member of the New Party "in any practical way" – using qualifying language.
• Candidates must be approved by the party's political committee and, once approved, must sign a contract mandating they will have a "visible and active relationship" with the party.
• Becoming a New Party member required some effort on behalf of the politician.
• Asked whether Obama signed the New Party contract, Davidson replied there was "no need for him to do so."
• "At the end of our session with him, we simply affirmed there was no need to do so, because on all the key points, the stand of his campaign and the New Party reform planks were practically the same," Davidson told WND.
• Among the New Party's stated objectives were "full employment, a shorter work week and a guaranteed minimum income for all adults; a universal 'social wage' to include such basic benefits as health care, child care, vacation time and lifelong access to education and training; a systematic phase-in of comparable worth and like programs to ensure gender equity."
• The socialist-oriented goals of the New Party were enumerated on its old website.
• The New Party stated it also sought "the democratization of our banking and financial system – including popular election of those charged with public stewardship of our banking system, worker-owner control over their pension assets [and] community-controlled alternative financial institutions."
• Many of the New Party's founding members were Democratic Socialists of America leaders and members of Committees of Correspondence, a breakaway of the Communist Party USA.
• The New Party, established in 1992, took advantage of what was known as electoral "fusion," which enabled candidates to run on two tickets simultaneously, attracting voters from both parties.
• But the New Party went defunct in 1998, one year after fusion was halted by the Supreme Court.
• According to DSA documents, the New Party worked with ACORN to promote its candidates.
• ACORN, convicted in massive, nationwide voter-fraud cases, has been a point of controversy for Obama over the presidential candidate's ties to the group.
• In 1995, the DSA's New Ground newsletter stated, "In Chicago, the New Party's biggest asset and biggest liability is ACORN.
• "On one hand, in Chicago, ACORN is a group that attempts to organize some of the most depressed communities in the city. Chicago organizers for ACORN and organizers for SEIU Local 880 have been given modest monthly recruitment quotas for new New Party members.
• "Like most organizations, ACORN is a mixed bag," the newsletter said.

     I haven't read all 2550 comments at this point, so maybe someone else made this observation. I find it interesting that Max Baucus, the drunk senator from Montana who gave his girlfriend a top job, is living up to his namesake, Bacchus, the Roman god of wine, fertility, and revelry. I'm sure worse things could happen, but remember what happened to Rome: the empire crumbled under the weight of wholesale self-indulgence and debauchery. America, look in the mirror.

• Former   Democratic Party chairman Howard Dean said on December 8 that “cooperation”   between European socialists and the Democratic Party has “intensified   significantly” over the last several years and involves “regular   contact” at “Congress, Senate, party and foundation levels.”
• He added that “efforts have been remarkable from both sides.”
• But   at a “Global   Progress Conference” in October, President Barack Obama’s   pollster, Joel Benenson, acknowledged that socialized medicine in the   U.S. faces a serious obstacle.
• He said that while Europeans are receptive   to the expansion of government in their lives, in America there is an   anti-government culture which prevents people from “expecting the   State to solve their problems.”
• “This   explains why Obama will find it difficult to implement the social coverage   plans such as a broader health service,” Benenson   reportedly said.
• The   conference was held in Madrid, Spain under the patronage of Spain’s   socialist Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero,
• whose   pro-homosexual and pro-abortion policies have led to street   protests by thousands of supporters of traditional values.
• Zapatero   is also under fire for a jobless rate of nearly 18 percent.
• Dean’s   comments came in a   video address in which he joked that his failure to personally attend   the Party of European Socialists (PES) convention, which was advertised   as a “carbon neutral congress,” was actually a smart move   because he avoided flying and contributing to global warming. “We’ve   saved a lot of carbon,” Dean said.
• In his   comments, Dean called for a “long-term global vision” for   the transformation of the global economy and mentioned that disgraced   Democratic President Bill Clinton had previously spoken at a meeting of   the PES-sponsored Global Progressive Forum.
• The April   2-3 Global Progressive Forum also featured Robert Borosage of the   left-wing group that calls itself the Campaign for America’s Future.
• The   Global   Progressive Forum is also sponsored by the Socialist International,   whose U.S. affiliate, the Democratic Socialists of America, includes long-time   backers of Barack Obama.
• “Free-market   globalization alone cannot achieve social justice,” Dean told the   PES convention. “What the world needs is a global New Deal.”
• He defined   this as a “transition to a low-carbon economy” involving “a   major transformation in the patterns of production and consumption.”
• This will include “large-scale investments and mechanisms”   to share the costs and the policies, he said.
• His remarks came on the   eve of the United Nations climate change conference in Copenhagen.
• Dean   never used the words “world government,” but did declare that   “We need a new institutional framework to govern, manage and monitor   implementation.”
• In order   to bring this about, the PES Congress issued a “Call   to Action” urging the imposition of a “global financial   transaction tax”
• that would generate hundreds of billions of dollars   and “provide funding for long-term public investments, to finance   global development and climate change.”
• As AIM   has disclosed, there is a   secret plan by left-wing non-governmental organizations to bring about   this global tax over the next several months.
• In another   PES document, “A   New Direction for Progressive Societies,” the group urged a   “progressive peace policy” that says “…we fully   support the initiative of the US administration in favor of global disarmament”
• and urges the “deepening [of] transatlantic cooperation with the   new US administration.”
• “It   is our profound conviction that we must secure a Global New Deal for a   new global order of social justice, equality, sustainable development   and democracy,” the document concludes.
• Howard   Dean’s involvement with the PES is actually an old story.

• In our   February 14, 2008, column,   “Obama’s International Socialist Connections,” we noted   that:

   

  “Another   group associated with the SI [Socialist International] is the Party of   European Socialists (PES), which heard from Howard Dean, the chairman   of the Democratic National Committee, back in 2006.
• Dean’s speech   is posted   on the official Democratic Party website, although the European socialist   parties are referred to as ‘progressive.’
• Democrats, Dean   said, want to be ‘good citizens of the world community.’
• He   spoke at a session on ‘Global Challenges for Progressive Politics.’”

• A summary of remarks said that   the conference was perceived to be the “starting point for a new   global progressive alliance.”
• The   Center for American Progress is a George Soros-funded entity run by former   Clinton official John Podesta, who co-chaired the Obama-Biden Transition   Project.
• Obama   pollster Benenson has a website   which says that he “was the lead pollster and a senior strategist   for President Barack Obama during the 2008 election, and he continues   in that role today.”
• In addition   to Obama and various Democratic Party candidates, elected officials, and   campaign organizations, his   clients have included the AFL-CIO, Service Employees International   Union (SEIU), Brookings Institution, the Soros Foundation, and the Working   Families Party, an ACORN front.
• The   Benenson Strategy Group has represented several foreign governments and   currently represents British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, a prominent   advocate of a global tax who is facing re-election in June 2010.
• Brown’s   socialist Labor Party is a member of the PES.

• Bay State Attorney General Martha Coakley blamed GOP “stalkers” today for triggering tensions outside a Washington, D.C., fund-raiser last night where a Weekly Standard reporter said he was roughed up by a Coakley campaign volunteer.
• Coakley, a Democrat, is in a red-hot race for U.S. Senate against GOP rival Scott Brown, where a poll out yesterday places the two only 2 points apart closing in on the Jan. 19 special election.
• The post-fundraiser fury has now sent both parties scrambling.
• Coakley said she is not “privy” to the facts surrounding the incident involving reporter John McCormack last night, who wrote about the episode outside the Sonoma restaurant in Washington, D.C. in an online dispatch titled: “We Report, We Get Pushed.”
• The Wall Street Journal reported the Coakley fund-raiser at the Sonoma restaurant in Washington, D.C. was put on by health care industry lobbyists.
• “I know there were people following, including two from the Brown campaign who have been very aggressive in their stalking,” Coakley told reporters during an appearance at Kit Clark Senior Services in Dorchester.
• “I’m not sure what happened. I know something occurred, but I’m not privy to the facts. I’m sure it will come out, but I’m not aware of that.”
• McCormack told the Herald he met Coakley Jan. 5 after a radio debate at the WTKK (96.9-FM) studios, where he asked her four questions.
• “She knew that there was a reporter who asked her a question. We had met before. I asked her four questions.
• She saw me get knocked to the ground and kept walking,” said McCormack.
• “I wouldn’t say I was surprised. ... She’s decided she’s entitled to the seat without answering questions on issues that are of national importance.”

• Michael Meehan, the Coakley campaign volunteer involved in the scufffle, told the Herald he did not push McCormack. He said he was escorting Coakley to her car outside the restaurant when she encountered a scrum of reporters and Republican operatives.
• “I did not push him,” said Meehan, who is president of Blue Line Strategic Communications in Washington, D.C.
• He said he is volunteering for Coakley and has 25 years of experience as a Senate press aide.
• Meehan said he helped McCormack up after he tripped over a low fence in front a book store near the restaurant and asked him if he was OK. He added McCormack was not wearing a press credential and refused to identify himself when Meehan asked who he was.
• “He wouldn’t tell me who he was and he wouldn’t tell me who he works for,” said Meehan. “Reporters get to ask questions. That’s totally legit. Republican operatives can’t chase a candidate down the street.”
• Meehan said he let McCormack pass after he displayed his press credential. He added he’s left two messages for Meehan and wants to apologize for “my part in his fall.”
• Coakley complained she’s been followed by Brown operatives.
• “I do know that the Scott Brown stalkers who have followed me around and the people at that press conference ... were incredibly aggressive about trying to get in my face,” Coakley said. “I didn’t see what happened so I can’t say.”

• Big Government contributor Dana Loesch has reported on the Coakley staffer who attacked a Weekly Standard reporter outside a Martha Coakley fundraiser on Capitol Hill.
• A number of outlets have identified the culprit as Michael Meehan, a long-time Democrat political operative.

• In a lengthy academic paper, President Obama's regulatory czar, Cass Sunstein, argued the U.S. government should ban "conspiracy theorizing."

• Among the beliefs Sunstein would ban is advocating that the theory of global warming is a deliberate fraud.
• Sunstein also recommended the government send agents to infiltrate "extremists who supply conspiracy theories" to disrupt the efforts of the "extremists" to propagate their theories.
• In a 2008 Harvard law paper, "Conspiracy Theories," Sunstein and co-author Adrian Vermeule, a Harvard law professor, ask, "What can government do about conspiracy theories?"
• "We can readily imagine a series of possible responses. (1) Government might ban conspiracy theorizing. (2) Government might impose some kind of tax, financial or otherwise, on those who disseminate such theories."

• Continued Sunstein:
• Sunstein said government agents "might enter chat rooms, online social networks, or even real-space groups and attempt to undermine percolating conspiracy theories by raising doubts about their factual premises, causal logic or implications for political action."
• Sunstein defined a conspiracy theory as "an effort to explain some event or practice by reference to the machinations of powerful people, who have also managed to conceal their role."
• Some "conspiracy theories" recommended for ban by Sunstein include:

• He continued: "The Watergate hotel room used by Democratic National Committee was, in fact, bugged by Republican officials, operating at the behest of the White House. In the 1950s, the CIA did, in fact, administer LSD and related drugs under Project MKULTRA, in an effort to investigate the possibility of 'mind control.'”
• Sunstein's paper advocating against the belief that global warming is a deliberate fraud was written before November's climate scandal in which e-mails hacked from the Climatic Research Unit at East Anglia University in the U.K. indicate top climate researchers conspired to rig data and keep researchers with dissenting views from publishing in leading scientific journals.
• Sunstein: Ban 'right wing' rumors
• Sunstein's paper is not the first time he has advocated banning the free flow of information.

• WND reported that in a recently released book, "On Rumors," Sunstein argued websites should be obliged to remove "false rumors" while libel laws should be altered to make it easier to sue for spreading such "rumors."
• In the 2009 book, Sunstein cited as a primary example of "absurd" and "hateful" remarks, reports by "right-wing websites" alleging an association between President Obama and Weatherman terrorist William Ayers.
• He also singled out radio talker Sean Hannity for "attacking" Obama regarding the president's "alleged associations."
• Ayers became a name in the 2008 presidential campaign when it was disclosed he worked closely with Obama for years. Obama also was said to have launched his political career at a 1995 fundraiser in Ayers' apartment.
• 'New Deal Fairness Doctrine'
• WND also previously reported Sunstein drew up a "First Amendment New Deal" – a new "Fairness Doctrine" that would include the establishment of a panel of "nonpartisan experts" to ensure "diversity of view" on the airwaves.
• Sunstein compared the need for the government to regulate broadcasting to the moral obligation the U.S. had to impose new rules that outlawed segregation.
• Sunstein's radical proposal, set forth in his 1993 book "The Partial Constitution," received no news media attention and scant scrutiny until the WND report.
• In the book, Sunstein outwardly favors and promotes the "Fairness Doctrine," the abolished FCC policy that required holders of broadcast licenses to present controversial issues of public importance in a manner the government deemed "equitable and balanced."
• Sunstein introduces what he terms his "First Amendment New Deal" to regulate broadcasting in the U.S.
• His proposal, which focuses largely on television, includes a government requirement that "purely commercial stations provide financial subsidies to public television or to commercial stations that agree to provide less profitable but high-quality programming."
• Sunstein wrote it is "worthwhile to consider more dramatic approaches as well."
• He proposes "compulsory public-affairs programming, right of reply, content review by nonpartisan experts or guidelines to encourage attention to public issues and diversity of view."
• The Obama czar argues his regulation proposals for broadcasting are actually presented within the spirit of the Constitution.
• "It seems quite possible that a law that contained regulatory remedies would promote rather than undermine the 'freedom of speech,'" he writes.
• Writes Sunstein: "The idea that government should be neutral among all forms of speech seems right in the abstract, but as frequently applied it is no more plausible than the idea that it should be neutral between the associational interests of blacks and those of whites under conditions of segregation."
• Sunstein contends the landmark case that brought about the Fairness Doctrine, Red Lion Broadcasting Co. v. Federal Communications Commission, "stresses not the autonomy of broadcasters (made possible only by current ownership rights), but instead the need to promote democratic self-government by ensuring that people are presented with a broad range of views about public issues."
• He continues: "In a market system, this goal may be compromised. It is hardly clear that 'the freedom of speech' is promoted by a regime in which people are permitted to speak only if other people are willing to pay enough to allow them to be heard."

• In his book, Sunstein slams the U.S. courts' unwillingness to "require something like a Fairness Doctrine" to be a result of "the judiciary's lack of democratic pedigree, lack of fact-finding powers and limited remedial authority."   

  He clarifies he is not arguing the government should be free to regulate broadcasting however it chooses.   

  "Regulation designed to eliminate a particular viewpoint would of course be out of bounds. All viewpoint discrimination would be banned," Sunstein writes.   
• But, he says, "at the very least, regulative 'fairness doctrines' would raise no real doubts" constitutionally.
