This unit is intended to provide fourth graders with an overview of chemistry and to provide their teachers with lessons to cover all of the fourth grade chemistry requirements in the Core Knowledge Sequence. Through observation and hands-on activities the students will gain a foundation for their understanding of the exciting world of matter.

This unit, designed using research-based, practical strategies, provides engaging chemistry instruction. Our robust vocabulary approach allows for frequent, rich, extended learning opportunities supplemented with online chemistry investigations. Word logs,
meaningful activities, and assessments enhance student understanding of properties of matter and changes in our world. Use activities to provide common background for new students or to review concepts with English Language Learners and special needs students.
