The scrapbook contains approximately 130 items, including newspaper clippings, photographs, and a limited number of manuscript materials, collected between 1855-72. A timeline, authored by Edward Wakeling, former chairman of the Lewis Carroll Society, helps to place materials found in the scrapbook in their proper context.

Authors provide a great model for aspiring young writers. Helping students make the connection with their favorite authors is a great way to nurture good habits in writing and developing a unique author's voice. Reading and writing are not reciprocal tasks, but complementary processes!\n\nLike everyone else, authors are carving out a niche online for themselves. From classic writers who lived hundreds of years ago to today's most popular authors, the Web offers biographies and bibliographies for many of them. Book publishing companies are always glad to feature their authors, but some of the best sites I've found are created by educators and avid fans of specific writers. It is my hope that among these famed names you will find resources you can use in your classroom for one or more author studies this year. An updated list is available at http://surfaquarium.com/NEWSLETTER/authors2007.htm

Charlotte's Web by E. B. (Elwyn Brooks) White has everything you like about a book. It has friendship, love and caring. It is funny, serious, and sad. It was our first "class" chapter book. It touched us in a very special way. It made us laugh and cry and we loved to listen to it just like a treasure box. It ran through our minds like a hurricane and we'll never forget it. We didn't want to stop reading it. We loved Charlotte's Web! We hope you enjoy the work our second grade class did to create this web site.
