" "The Giver" by Lois Lowry is about a young boy named Jonas who is given the job as the "Receiver" and learns the horrors of his so called "perfect community". Before he was assigned his job, he only saw his world as a safe, consistent environment where everything was regulated and life was basic. Jonas gives the readers a first hand view on the importance of humanity and how necessary it is for people to be able to explore their "God-given" abilities, like having choices and experiencing a plethora of emotions. "Bullying is an everyday issue in the lives of many children and young adults. Many victims do not seek help from others. However, they may seek out literature as a means to escape or to learn how to better handle their situation. Banning/censoring books takes away a valuable outlet for victims of bullying and abuse. When it comes down to it, isn't censorship just another way to bully someone?"
"The purpose of this website is to explore the world of Harry, the controversy surrounding the books, and the effects of censorship."
