Dion Hinchcliffe on leveraging the convergence of IT and the next generation of the Web.
"This online, edited collection explores discursive, visual, social, and other communicative features of weblogs. Essays analyze and critique situated cases and examples drawn from weblogs and weblog communities. Such a project requires a multidisciplinary approach, and contributions represent perspectives from Rhetoric, Communication, Sociology, Cultural Studies, Linguistics, and Education, among others"
"Jessica Knott, in “The Open Source LMS: Look Out, Big Kids,” asks, “What trends are you seeing on your campus? Are you more likely to use a centrally supported learning management system or strike out on your own and teach from a blog?” For the first question, my answer is “More of the same LMS-based approach. Nothing new.” For the second, my answer is “A mixed approach” — combining open web social networking applications such as blogs with a few LMS applications.
Today, when we think of completely online college classes, we think LMS (learning management system). Period. End of discussion."
"Welcome to the SOURCE on Community College Issues, Trends & Strategies,
an online supply of information about two-year institutions in the U.S.
Community colleges are important drivers of our economy through workforce development partnerships and the expansion of modern curriculums that have a clear focus on the jobs of the future.
Year after year community colleges experience increased enrollments due mostly to their relatively low tuition rates and fees, open admission policies, and curriculums that, upon completion, propel students into decent-paying careers. In addition, community colleges help the communities they serve through partnerships with local businesses, by providing the best courses of study to enable students to transfer into 4-year programs, and by offering programs that ultimately give students the skills and aptitudes they need to enter into their occupation of choice.
