SarahBeth Walker's List: Technology for Early Childhood

REC contains both resources for teachers and activities that integrate technology into lessons for young children.  The website provides many interactive tools, and a teacher could explore the resources as ways to use technology in authentic learning.  Each tool also contains information on how it matches to Ohio's content standards.  While standards vary from state to state, the resources can still be useful. 

Earlychildhood.com provides informative newsletters to parents and teachers as well as information about relative products.  One of its most useful features is the list of ideas for each subjects, ages pre-K through 8.  A teacher could use this website to come up with creative ideas for the classroom.

Starfall provides interactive games and lessons which can be used in authentic instruction to teach young children language arts skills, including phonics, reading, and more.  There are also holiday activities, as well as a new curriculum which can be purchased specifically for Kindergartners.  Without purchasing the curriculum, teachers could use this site to provide fun games using technology in support of and conjunction with many lessons on the alphabet, reading, and pronunciation.  Starfall is also a great option for English language and special education programs for young children.

This is a web search site which provides child appropriate online books, pictures, magazines, and digital media.  These resources are arranged by categories, alphabetical search, and the Dewey Decimal system in order to make them easier for children to access.  Teachers could use this website to teach students about libraries, or as a scaffold to assist young students in self-directed research projects.  

This website contains many ideas for teaching preschoolers, including web and non-web resources.  Teachers can use this site to get printables for their classroom and download or order educational computer games for students.  My favorite feature is the music & songs index, which provides educational songs for all subject areas and many holidays.  These can be incorporated into nearly any lesson.  

This is a kind of directory to other early childhood resources that are available on the internet.  New sites are constantly being added, many of which provide "hands-on" activities for children. Teacher can use this site to search for internet projects and resources that can be used in conjunction with lessons.

This website provides thematic units with online and classroom activities for each grade level and subject.  It also contains articles and a place to share ideas.  Teachers could use the activities as fun ways for their students to learn through technology.  The other features can be used for professional development. 

This website, along with its Spanish companion website, provide resources and active learning activities for teachers.  It also contains episodes with corresponding worksheets.  Teachers can use this to learn more about active learning, join the community, and engage students.

This is the Spanish companion website to A Place for Our Own.  ESL teachers with blended classrooms and a large hispanic population could use these two resources to ensure that all children are equally included in activities.
