In today’s episode, we had the chance to speak with Maggie Tsai, one of the co-founders of Diigo, a web-based research and knowledge-sharing environment. You could say Diigo combines all the best features of social bookmarking sites like del.icio.us and social networking sites like Facebook, which we discussed in a previous post. But spend just fifteen minutes exploring the video tutorials, how-to guides and user-generated content over at the Diigo Help Center and you’ll quickly realize that this is truly a unique and transformative tool. Diigo has the potential to change the ways in which we mentor all our students, but in particular, our graduate students and pre-service teachers, in a process that John Dewey calls ‘productive inquiry’

Netvibes portal for Dr. Michael Wesch-used with students in cultural anthropology/digital ethnography courses at Kansas State University. Fantastic collaborative learning community for students, even in classes of over 400 students! Rich example of content developed collaboratively with his students including shared resources on Diigo.
As you may have observed, here at ap we are fans of social bookmarking and collaboration (we have the homepage delicious bar under each post). Showing what people have bookmarked gives us feedback, and it is Up to now the leading contender in this space was delicious. But after finding Diigo, I cannot understand how delicious lost their competitive advantage so fast. Diigo is a killer app, and it works in many browsers. Delicious could be very useful to align your thought with collaborators. All in all, I’ve never seen an entrance in a monopolized market (social bookmarking) with this strength and resolution. Diigo is very impressive, and my bookmarking tool of choice.
