This is a unit developed primarily by myself with input from my CT and the NSTA listserv. The unit was used on approximately 100 seventh grade students during the '08-'09 school year with classes running 70 minutes in length.
6 minute video clips shows the white deer in northern WI. Kids were very interested.
Kids really enjoyed looking at all these albino animal types...
How Cells Divide: Mitosis vs. Meiosis

As viewed from a human perspective, nature has done some ingenious engineering to overcome some of the obstacles it has faced. Take the evolution of sex, for instance. To make the move from asexual to sexual reproduction, nature took a system by which parent cells reproduced simply by dividing (asexual reproduction) and altered it to allow two parent cells to combine to create offspring (sexual reproduction).
