Ideas for using the Capzles and Dipity free timeliners in the classroom. iLearn Technology is the premiere educational blog teaching educators about integrating technology and computer curriculum into the classroom
How to create a timeline in MS Word that includes dates, pictures, and url links.
Dipity is a free online timeliner tool . I've looked at several and think it may be the best for intermediate students to use. It's easy to create a free account and start working. The interface is very simple and requires no tutorial. It won't take really large pictures, so you may have to resize your photos before uploading. Basically, each new event gives you boxes for title, date, upload a picture or video, url link, and description. You can share timelines out by email or automatically to popular online sites such as Diigo, Facebook, etc. iLearn website has a review of this timeliner and ideas for using it in the classroom in the July 22 2008 entry.
Tried to create an AIM password to use with this account, but it took too many tries. Too bad as it looked promising. Create timelines about anything you want and share your timeline with your friends and family. Add photos and videos to your interactive timeline to make it even better at CircaVie.
Timeline is an interactive tool that invites students to generate descriptive timelines that can be plotted with their choice of units of measure. Allows you to input a title and description for each event and can print horizontally or vertically. Very basic; markings are evenly spaced and you can't embed graphics or links.
Looks promising but haven't tried yet. Explore, create, and share timelines about history, biographies, and more, using a web 2.0 timeline widget. Can embed pictures, urls, tags. When you view the timeline, all you see are the nodes and titles, but when you click on the node you can see the full description and any embedded pictures and links to urls such as the source of the photo or information.
