Shearwater is a luxury charter cruiser, based in Pwllheli, North Wales. We conduct scenic coastal cruises of the beautiful Llyn Peninsula of North Wales. We visit seal and seabird colonies on the offshore islands such as St. Tudwals, Gwylans and Bardsey. We are regularly accompanied by the local dolphins and we carry out scientific monitoring and Photo ID tasks on behalf of the Seawatch Foundation. Much more than a 'boat-trip' we ae able to show life from beneath the waves with our underwater video cameras. Cruises may be booked through the Pwllheli Tourist Information Centre (01758) 613000. The islands of the Llyn Peninsula see a massive influx of breeding seabirds in the spring and early summer. The luxury charter boat Shearwater, based in Pwllheli Marina, takes birding enthusiasts to see this dramatic event. A large, stable, purpose-built catamaran cruiser, Shearwater is able to take observers close to sea cliffs and inlets. There are even underwater video cameras to see diving auks under the water. The crew of Shearwater also undertake Photo-ID and monitoring tasks on the local dolphins on behalf of the Seawatch Foundation. The Llyn Peninsula forms the northern perimeter of Cardigan Bay and, like other parts of this extensive inlet, enjoys a resident population of Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops truncatus). On our �Shearwater� Coastal Cruises we have almost daily encounters with these wonderful animals.
Our Shearwater cruise itineraries take us from the estuary of Pwllheli to the rocky offshore islands of the St. Tudwals�, Gwylans and Bardsey, passing along the way, extensive sandy beaches, numerous sea-caves and high sheer cliffs. We occasionally transit across stretches of sea, taking us a few miles from shore. It is therefore not surprising, that such a journey through this range of contrasting habitats, enables us to see a great variety of bird species.
