Learning models & frameworks
The ADDIE model is a systematic instructional design model consisting of five phases: (1) Analysis, (2) Design, (3) Development, (4) Implementation, and (5) Evaluation.
A learning framework specific to engineering education. A CDIO program is based on the principle that product and system lifecycle development and deployment are the appropriate context for engineering education. Conceiving - Designing - Implementing - Operating is a model of the entire product lifecycle.
Perry's nine-stage model describes the steps that move students from a simplistic, categorical view of knowledge to a more complex, contextual view of the world and of themselves.
Salmon's five stage model describes the technical skills students need to master, and the skills required of the e-moderator in orde3r for students to progress through the dtages on online participation, from access through to contributing to development.
This paper reviews the five-stage model and contrasts it with a new conceptual model, 'the e-learning ladder', conceived as part of research with healthcare students in the higher education setting.
The "U Approach" identifies and seeks to foster two types of learning activities: the acquisition of knowledge and contribution to a learning community. The 4E implementation model (Effectiveness, Ease of use, personal Engagement, and Environment), according to Collis, predicts an individual's likelihood to believe and participate in a new flexible\nlearning initiative.
A useful summary of Pask's theory on learning strategies and Laurillard's Conversational Framework.
