heather kennedy's List: Connection of Twins

  • INTRODUCTION

I am doing research to help other better understand the connection of twins. What it's like to grow up as a twin, and how that makes them different from others. There are ups and downs of growing up with someone along side you all the time. I would like to share stories and research that make the connection between twins more apparent to others that don't understand what its like.

Segal, N. (1999). Entwined lives: Twins and what they tell us about human behavior. Dutton. Retrieved March 15, 2010, from googlebooks.com

I found this book through google books. The source is a book with all kinds of twin information from twin related data and anecdotes, to twins in sports and animal kingdom. I think this book will have a lot of good information and stories for me to help me with my research. The author Nancy Segal is a twin herself and directs the Twin Study Center at California State University, so her book is a very reliable, and a respectable source for me to use.

Pogrebin, A. (2009). The MECCA: Twinsburg. In One and the Same. Retreived March 4, 2010, from http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=114005783

I found this source while chatting with my online librarian. She was helping me search through the online databases and said she had heard something on the radio the other day about twins, and then she comes back with the link for this website. This is an excerpt from her book One and the Same. The excerpt is about the time she went to the Twins Festival in twinsburg, Ohio without her twin. She explains to us how she felt being at a twins festival without her twin, and explained that "this wasn't her twins kind of thing". We also hear a little bit about some of the people she talked to while she was there I think this source is respectful because she is a twin so she understands what its like, and that she had her book published so others have read it and approved it. This source will be helpful for me as I am answering my research question because I can use quotes from it in my paper, or I can use some of her words and paraphrase them into my own words.

Klein, B.(2003). Not all Twins are Alike: Psychological Profiles of Twinship.Praeger Publishers.Retrieved February 25, 2010, from googlebooks.

I found this book on google books when searching for twin information. This book shows how twins are different within their relationships, and that not all twins are alike, we are all our person. It shows the psychological aspects of being a twin. I think the book is authoritative because it is a published novel, and after reading through it you can tell the author knows what she is talking about. This will be helpful in my research because it has a lot of the psychological side of twins in it, and that will help me explain the issue to my audience.

Pearlman, E. (1990). Separation--Individuation, Self-Concept, and Object Relations in Fraternal Twins, Identical Twins, and Singletons. Journal of Psychology, 124(6), 619-628. Retrieved from Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection database.

I found this during my chat with the librarian online through the libraries online database. In this research there are many different questions done during a study of twins. They range from self esteem issues of twins to the marital status rate of twins.
This source came from the Journal of Psychology so I would think it would be pretty respectable. This information will help me because it has information about surveys and experiments that have been done on twins and I will be able to use the information as evidence as to how twins connect and why.

Wright, L. (1997).Twins and What they tell Us about who We are. Weidenfeld & Nicolson

I found this book at Mesa Community College Library, while looking for books for another class. This book talks about how being a twin has shaped us into the person we are today. It goes over the things we go through that make our character and personality. I think this source is authoritative because the author writes for the New yorker, and has been in Rolling Stone, and the New York Times Magazine. He has also written 3 other books. This source is very useful to answering my research questions because I am trying to explain this connection that twins have, and thats what this book is about, so I will use a lot of great quotes and references to this book.

Watson, P. (1982). Twins: An Uncanny Relationship. Viking Press. Retrieved March 15, 2010, from googlebooks.com

This book was found through google books. This book has information about the similarities and differences found in twins. It has stories of twins that were separated at birth and then later were found to be driving the same car and wear the same types of cloths. I think this book will have great information for me and it has gotten many great reviews so I will be a good source to use.

I found the twins connection website through google one day when I first started my research on twins. This website has so many different things about twins. There are stories, photos, blogs, and then a page with even more twin websites. This source is made by a twin, plus it sends you to many other reputable twin websites. This will definitely be useful in my research because there are so many different facts and information about twins that I will be able to use. I can read stories about twins, I can chat with twins, or read blogs written by twins about there connections. It will be a great help to me.

Kohl, S. (2001) Twin Stories: Their Mysterious and Unique Bond. Council Oak Books. Retrieved on March 15, 2010, from googlebooks.com.

I found this source on google books as well. This source is written by a mother a twins. She writes about the connection twins share as they grow up, and the bond that never seems to fail. She also got a lot of her information from the twins festival that another of my sources writes about so I think this book would be a respectable source to use.\n This book will give me different insight than some of my other sources, so it will be useful in giving me more information to use.

  • CONCLUSION

In conclusion to my Diigo list, I hope that you have read some great information about the connections that twins share, and that you feel better informed about the unique and wonderful bond that twins share.
