• Basically, you have two choices when choosing an album or photo storage box:
• 1. Paper.
  2. Plastic.
• But the bad news is there are plenty of junky materials out there.
• A cheap photo storage box can cause more damage than it prevents.
• Plastic is good at protecting your treasures from fingerprints and spills.
• But for storage, I prefer paper
• When in doubt, throw it out.
• Too Many Photos Leads to Overwhelm. Overwhelm Kills Motivation.
• How Reliable is the "Acid Free" Label?

  • where to buy and what sizes
• if it stinks, don't put anything valuable in it. Unfortunately, that rules out most of the pretty looking shoebox-style boxes.

• One approach would be to set a timer for 15 or 30 minutes, and just work for that long.
• Spread them out over a table or use shoeboxes or trays
• Get the photos out where you can see them
• This could be an album, scrapbook, frames, flip-frames, or simply a decorative box.

  • The destination could be a acid free boxes , an "organized" album or Organizing Photos system, aflip book , which ever way you are most comfortable
• Obtain or create a destination for the photos
• Do a rough pass.

  • Eliminate,eliminate all the bad looking stuff-- of course something rare ,endearing or one of a kind that contributes to the 'story" you are trying to tell can be used( kept)
• Sift out anything that could be improved by cropping or other adjustment and place it in a separate pile or tray.

  • Also Can Be organized on the computer later - ie changing folders , if you are into it...

  • For video, they can be scanned to a 'photoshop" folder
• Sort them into broad categories
• put family photographs in one pile, nature or artistic shots in another, and utility photos (such as pictures taken of your home or belongings for insurance purposes

  • Also think of more crative categories
    For example if you want to demonstrayte the the subject of your video has a good sense of humour , compile a funny or humor category-- the same can be done for other caracteristics or talents.... such as sports ability or an interest in cars...

• Your photos and memories deserve to be shared with others, not kept in a box until someone finds them and has no idea who or what they are about.

• That day is today! Take it one envelope at a time and set a goal for yourself. If you can organize one or two packages of photos each night, you will very soon be organized. If you wait for that one big chunk of time to get it all done, 5 years from now, you will just be further behind.

   

   

  • to get to all the pics you need you may not need to go thru all your pix but you will probably have a better video if you do.

  • But then a person could take it section by section( box by box) or (album by album)-- just have to assume they have space and the old boxes are not too chaotic...-- push the idea of box or to album or envelope a bit at a time --

• Organizing is a skill – a learned skill. There is no right and wrong way, only what works for you
• Pick and choose what works for you and make a commitment to stick to it
• Don’t worry if you can’t find certain photos – this should be an enjoyable process. When you do come across more photos, you will be able to add them into your system.
• If you have photos that are in old magnetic albums, remove them from these albums.

• Longevity is no longer limited by the stability of the dye, but instead depends on two other issues. The first issue is the original quality of the recorded disc. Each dye and recording speed requires a different optimum recording power and write strategy. CD-R writers vary in their capability to provide optimum recording conditions. Inconsistent recorded quality is the result, even though initial quality must be high if the disc is to degrade gracefully over its lifetime.
• he second issue is loss of performance with time. Studies have shown that high quality discs with a BLER of only 2 per second can degrade to 700 per second after one year of office use, and to a BLER of 4,000 per second when the readout surface is heavily scratched. ISO Standard 10149 requires BLER to be less than 220 for successful interchange, indicating that improper handling can cause a disc to fail in months or even weeks.
• Longevity is an major issue for CD discs, and will become even more important when the smaller data and track spacings of DVD discs enhance sensitivity to defects.
