You'll need this info when you set up Diigo bookmarking on your iPhone.
Diigo is perhaps one of the web’s premier research tools - this is widely accepted. Whether Web 2.0 actually ever existed is irrelevant, but the innovation brought to us these last two years is undeniable. The big question for me has been:
“Does the innovation actually do anything for us?” I think I have tested and reviewed over 300 startups in the last couple of years, and I can honestly say that most of this innovation has been directed at entertainment or rather useless “cuteness”. Diigo as a tool, could be viewed as a much more serious innovation by comparison.
Emily Barney, a University of Illinois grad student (library science, I believe), has created a fabulous video overview of Diigo. In less than 10 minutes, you’ll discover just how useful Diigo can be in supporting your research efforts.
The Firefox toolbar for Diigo is your quick connect to everything Diigo. Don’t go anywhere without it!
The Diigo toolbar sits at the top of your browser window, ready for action whenever you visit a page worth remembering. The toolbar is very customizable and you can set it up to suit your style and browsing efforts. Here’s how easy it is to set options for your Diigo toolbar.
Diigo’s “Blog This” function builds on its highlighting and annotation features to make it easy to capture information and incorporate it into a blog post. The feature works with WordPress, Blogger, LiveJournal, Typepad, Moveable Type, Windows Live Spaces and Drupal blog platforms. Here’s how it works . . .
When you need to generate a list of related articles for a current post, here’s what you do . . .
Because you asked . . . Here’s how to set up Related Articles links using Diigo.
In addition to all the other great tools for annotating and bookmarking web pages, Diigo has some awesome features for sharing those sites you’ve discovered. For bloggers, the Send to Blog feature is a especially useful. Once you’ve set up your blog, you can easily create a post from any web page you’re visiting.
I’ve been a great fan of this social bookmarking system for quite a while, but this upgrade puts Diigo into a league of its own. The Diigo staff have made their platform a researcher’s dream.
Diigo provides many ways to organize your bookmarks including tags, groups and lists. Lists offer a unique way to collect, arrange and share a series of bookmarks. Once created and populated, a list can be shared by email, as a link from a web site or blog, published to a social site or presented as a slideshow using Diigo’s own WebSlides. Lists are a great way to spotlight a special collection of bookmarks.
Just what is a profile? This is a page of information about you and your research goals. You would include contact information - your research email address, Skype username, web site or blog address and other key networking services you use like Flickr, Twitter or Diigo.
