adding on from before, low wages mean low standard living or higher debt, which may lead to recession, either way, that would be a bad start to anew federation.
An address by Keith Windschuttle ( Trobe University) to Sydney Institute, August 10 2005. He explains other reasons as to why Aus. wanted the WAP. such as to stop 'political under-class' and to keep the wage rates higher. Windschuttle also shows the affects of the WAP on Australia today. includes many statements which can be used as evidence "In short, the White Australia Policy was introduced for economic and cultural reasons, not primarily because of racial prejudice." Pretty much sums it up :D Quite reliable, used for a debate, so it should have reliable information.
adding on from before, low wages mean low standard living or higher debt, which may lead to recession, either way, that would be a bad start to anew federation.
WAP wasn't really meant to be racist, but simply keep the wages higher, which instead would lead to a resession
WAP was meant to stop engagement with Asia, but it was the opposite, as they were becoming our 3rd biggest trading partner.
An article about the movement towards Federation and the inauguration of the Commonwealth of Australia in 1901.. Provides little information on how/who started the federation, but includes points to expand on, so it basically gives a brief outline of everything.
Basically shows the racism among the white people towards coloured. states that recruiting black men from other islands were denying the white of jobs. also gave non-racist test for incomers (but with racist intentions) to stop them from entering australia
Provides examples and reasons why colonies and individuals were wary about becoming a federation, eg. unions believed that the nation would delay/set back their progress made in each colony.
"It is not the bad qualities, but the good qualities of these alien races that make them so dangerous to us. It is their inexhaustible energy, their power of applying themselves to new tasks, their endurance and low standard of living that make them such competitors" quote shows how they could effect the newly formed federation (Alfred Deak. Also includes legacy of WAP, such as a result from 2001 census (Very Useful)
2001 census shows how most of Australia was either Indigneous Australian or English/Irish/Italian (So basically white) or Australian, also very little chinese, indian and lebanese, shows how they were excluded from the WAP
"Basically, when Australia became a federation in 1901 the establishment of the white australia policy could actually be done as there was now one SINGLE government controlling immigration. Immigration (or the restriction of immigration) was one of the reasons that people wanted Australia to become a federation." This answer opens another point on the effect (positive or negatice) the federation had on the white australia policy.
Brief information on Australian federation. Gives many points to research and expand on. Basic outline of what happened. similar to the culture protal page. but this page only states basicaly how federation started and and what they did to celebrate. very little but some good information
explains how and why Australia didn't and did want to become a federation, includes table of results. Also includes information on what happened after the federation
Well I wouldn't know what to do without this blog. So this blog was actually one of my biggest helps in what to do :D
