"...From the Helena Diocese of the Catholic Church (www.diocesehelena.org) to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (www.lds.org ), technology is giving America's faithful a new way to connect with their church, their faith and spirituality. So, if you're seeking God in these troubling times, maybe you should start by Googling God."
"...we recommend that you save your videos as either QuickTime .MOV, Windows .AVI, or .MPG files— these are the most common formats and they work well within our system. We specifically recommend the MPEG4 (Divx, Xvid) format at 640x480 resolution with MP3 audio. "...choosing YouTube as an appropriate platform for establishing a presence on the Web” made sense, he said, especially given that so much information on the pope and the Vatican was already appearing in fragmented, out-of-context forms and scattered over multiple venues... By creating its own channel on YouTube—which boasts 70 million viewers a month—the Vatican is seeking to give people the opportunity to access information about the pope and the Vatican from a regular and trustworthy source..."
"We've been having a good deal of success with YouTube and it has been responsible for a big chunk of the traffic on our Web site..."
an example of how to help visitors get their feet wet with all this new media jazz. it's very important for us to have something like this - only even more simplified I think, for the super un-tech-savvy folks.
I can't view videos for some reason on my comp. - but here's a site that's doing a pretty good job using video, podcasting, and blogging for Catholic purposes.
Note: one great thing about blogs (especially if you make them independent-just-affiliated entities that don't need as much 'control') is that people can comment - which creates a sense of community and interaction - and also new content without an =y work - 'user-generated-content' - it's all the rage.
much of it can apply to religious orgs too.
Good example of Catholic-centered blogging - also has a twitter updates 'widget' in the sidebar.
demonstrates twitter's usefulness as a way to update people on news articles (and remind them that the paper exists, and tempt them to actually read the articles & visit the websitet)
