You've seen how Pipes can create customized RSS feeds, but Pipes can also manipulate data from other sources. The video includes a quick demonstration of what it can do with Flickr, but other data sources can also be used.

Microsoft had created its own widget-maker, but is now shutting down the site. This is one of the biggest issues you may find with widgets - if someone else is hosting the code, you can only use it as long as the host is viable.
