• Pour les mémoires, Nicolas a passé quinze jours enfermé chez lui avec cinq ou six livres à chaque fois, à raison de six ou sept heures de travail quotidien. Les thèmes choisis sont assez analytiques, pour limiter le travail de recherche. Nicolas considère tout ça avec une pointe de mépris : « Les sciences sociales, c’est quand même pas mal de branlette. »

• Qu’advient-il alors de la valeur des diplômes universitaires ? Hicham veut accéder au rang de docteur en relations internationales pour « toujours avoir un coup d’avance sur ses adversaires », comme il le confiait à Nicolas lors d’une de leurs entrevues. Il envisagerait même d’enseigner dès son retour au pays. Autant dire que l’imposture serait alors totale.
• Des sanctions existent pourtant. Un étudiant surpris en train de tricher risque d’être interdit de tout concours ou examen pendant cinq ans. De quoi sérieusement plomber une carrière. Cette sanction recouvre de nombreuses réalités, du plagiat au recours au nègre ; mais n’est que rarement appliquée.

Google Scholar is a great source for material, providing the abstract of nearly any journal article. And of course, there's Wikipedia, which is often my first stop when dealing with unfamiliar subjects.
• I can say in 10 pages what most normal people could say in a paragraph.

• I work hard for a living. I'm nice to people. But I understand that in simple terms, I'm the bad guy. I see where I'm vulnerable to ethical scrutiny.

   

  But pointing the finger at me is too easy. Why does my business thrive? Why do so many students prefer to cheat rather than do their own work?

   

  Say what you want about me, but I am not the reason your students cheat.
