The Fischbowl: Global Collaboration: 1001 Flat World Tales Project

global collaboration between her class and classes in Korea, Canada and China (so far). The idea originated with Clay Burell, who teaches at the Korea International School in Seoul, South Korea.
Clay's idea is to have students read portions of the Arabian Nights and have them then write stories about their culture, their lives, starting with truth and bleeding into fiction.

“Flat world” projects : thinking 2.0

Clay is the brain behind the innovative 1001 Flat World Tales project, which involved students from three high schools (from South Korea, Hawaii and Canada) in a collaborative creative writing project. He writes how 1:1 “schools are prime candidates for “normalizing” flat classroom collaboration across the curriculum”.

1001 FlatWorld Tales: A wonderful collaborative storytelling project developed by Clay Burell, using wikispaces to create a never-ended story based on a central theme. I worked on this project last year with my middle school students and we loved it! This year Jeff Dungan and I will co-coordinate the elementary section. We’re hoping to encourage students to see stories within stories so that students all over the world can build on each other’s idea. We would also like to see use of audio and visual elements to the stories, so there is lots of room for growth with this powerful project.

has just accepted a position here in KL next year. Last week I started working with Clay Burell at Korea International School on the 1001 Flat World Tales project, which has also connected me to Jeff Dungan at Carol Morgan School in the DR, which (I’m assuming) prompted a very nice comment on this blog from Mark Picketts, also at CMS.

I am particularly impressed with the educational usage of the 1001 Tales Wiki: https://burell9english.wikispaces.com/Project+FAQ. It is amazing how students can publish their writing online, review, revise, and edit others' work, and have others' work on their writing in the same way.

I found Clay Burrell’s wiki Thousand and One Flat World Tales project, a writing workshop between students of Korea International School (KIS) in Seoul, South Korea, Punahou High School in Honolulu, Hawaii, and Arapahoe High School in Littleton, Colorado. It looks awesome.
