Sharon Quinn's List: Education Resources

    • The 4 C's are as vital to human learning as the "R's". Actually, they lie at the heart of our enduring spirit and are the skills we will need to have in order to live in peace & harmony as a unified race of interactively caring & sharing people.

I tend to think of critical thinking more as reflective thinking that imparts critical awareness.

this idea is integrated into all AKRNA thinking and classroom management; it is a fun way to foster reflective thinking with critical awareness demonstrating discernment, and pondering skills as a result. Ideal for a Socratic circle of discussing & inspiring.

Project-Based Learning is a main component of 826’s model for the development of successful writing skills and the overall advancement of student learning. In the process of producing and finishing a project, students invest themselves deeply in their work. Projects are a source of pride for students, as well as a permanent reminder of their own accomplishment.

The major tenets of project-based learning are:

        • to give students the chance to collaborate with instructors and peers
        •
        • to place students in decision-making roles, thereby reinforcing the skills and techniques learned, as they are forced to employ them independently
        • to design assignments with more than one right answer leaving room for creativity and critical thinking
        •
        • to take advantage of an authentic audience of readers outside the classroom setting, bolstering students’ pride in their work
        •
        • to show students that school activities have value beyond the classroom. Challenges students face throughout the process coincide with real-life problems, motivating them to perform at a higher level
        •
        • to engage students in a project that is meaningful to them at the moment
        •
        • that culmination in a final, finished product makes the learning experience more meaningful

An InfoGraphic projecting people's POV of the USA in 2050.
The shocking projection for PUBLIC Education is indicative of a problem allowed to wallow in its own failure for far toooo long! A 16-17% negative expectancy in lack of improvement & getting worse is NOT ACCEPTABLE to me... and you?

    • NOTICE the appalling trend regarding the expectation of Public Education NOT IMPROVING that declined by 17% in < one year from 1999 to 2011. YIKES!

Couple this with the 16% expectation that education will GET WORSE... Surely, we're on the wrong track to success.

Such results make me wonder why organizations like AKRNA.com struggle to get public support. Does this Infographic shed light on an emotional apathy that is generating a paralysis of inaction even when intelligent answers and programs are proffered?
