Cotabato City, January 2, 2002 (STAR) — The Army battalion responsible for quelling down the recent uprising in Zamboanga City of followers of jailed former Gov. Nur Misuari is back in Maguindanao, ready to pluck out former officials of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao if they refuse to vacate their posts by Friday.

President Arroyo, along with Public Works Secretary Simeon Datumanong, will officiate at the symbolic installation of newly elected ARMM Gov. Parouk Hussin and Vice Gov. Mahid Mutilan here on Friday.

The Army’s 57th Infantry Battalion, which became popular for its last year’s capture of Camp Omar, a well-fortified enclave of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front at the boundary of Shariff Aguak and Talayan towns in Maguindanao, arrived at the Polloc Port the other day.

It was deployed a month ago in Zamboanga City to flush out renegade supporters of Misuari.

The 57th IB has been securing several strategic spots in the second district of Maguindanao since the early 90s.

Maj. Julieto Ando, spokesman of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division, said the 57th IB will assist in security measures for President Arroyo’s visit to Cotabato City and Maguindanao on Jan. 4-5.

The 6th ID’s commanding general, Brig. Gen. Roy Kyamko, earlier activated Task Force Sagittarius, a composite group of soldiers and policemen, to help ensure a peaceful transition in the ARMM leadership. —
