Manila, June 2, 2001 - (STAR) The four rescued hostages of the Abu Sayyaf underwent medical attention at the Southern Command and were to be debriefed today, according to Armed Forces spokesperson Brig. Gen. Edilberto Adan.

Adan said all four hostages namely, Reghis Romero, 50 years old and owner of RII Builders, RJ Recio, 8, Liza Santos, 29, and Eldrin Morales, security guard of the Dos Palmas resort, are "in safe hands and very much alive."

Meanwhile, Adan said the military continued to buildup its forces in Basilan to prevent the bandits from escaping.

He said skirmishes with the Abu Sayyaf were ongoing.
