October 15, 2001, Sun Star, MILF camp in Lanao bombarded, by Ben O. Tesiorna,

DAVAO -- A MORO Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) camp in Lanao del Sur was bombarded by troops from the Philippine Army last week for no reason at all.

MILF Spokesperson Eid Kabalu said Camp Bushra, which is located in Butig, Lanao del Sur, was pounded by howitzer fires by elements of the 29th Infantry Battalion last Thursday morning. 

Kabalu said the military shelled their camp six times using 105 mm howitzer from 7 in the morning stopping only shortly before noon on the same day. 

Kabalu said there were no damage to lives and properties but the bombs landed just along the periphery of Camp Bushra. 

MILF Commander Jannati Mimbantas and his men, he added, are now on their toes for possible ground assault from the government troopers. 

Until Sunday afternoon, Kabalu said, there were no assault from the military. 

Kabalu said their men in the field were not doing anything to incite such an attack.
