June 20, 2001, The Philippine Star, Libya Shuts Door on Misuari,
Manila, June 20, 2001 (STAR) The Libyan government has rejected the visa application of ousted Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) chairman Nur Misuari.
Misuari had sought the visa ostensibly to lead the MNLF delegation that observed the opening on June 20 of the peace talks between the Philippine government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).
According to MNLF Foreign Affairs Commission chief Dr. Farouk Hussein, the rejection of Misuari's visa application shows that Libya has recognized the reforms that have been implemented within the MILF leadership.
The reforms included the "promotion" of Misuari to the position of "chairman emeritus" after he was clipped off his powers as MNLF chairman. The position is largely nominal.
