Manila, June 11, 2001 - (STAR) Elements of the Philippine National Police (PNP) were placed on their toes following reports alleging that the Abu Sayyaf will penetrate Metro Manila.

National Capital Region Police Office Deputy Director Gen. Romeo Peña said policemen have positioned themselves at all entry and exit points surrounding the metropolis in anticipation of the bandits' arrival.

Peña assured they are prepared, saying every time an all-out offensive against the insurgents in Mindanao are launched, they automatically heighten security to thwart any attempt by the rebels to break into the metropolis.

He also said they are monitoring Muslim communities in Metro Manila.
