ZAMBOANGA CITY — The military has scheduled to transport 25 detained Abu Sayyaf suspects this afternoon to Manila to face trial, official said.

Armed Forces Southern Command chief Lt. Gen. Ernesto Carolina said those who were transported aboard the military's C-130 are Abu Sayyaf suspects who have been detained in Basilan Provincial Jail.

City State Prosecutor Ricardo Cabaron also confirmed the sending of the jailed Abu Sayyaf members who were captured in a series of military police operations. Among them are the three aides of slain Abu Sayyaf spokesman Aldam Tilao alias Abu Sabaya who were captured during the sea gunbattle last June 21 off Sibuco, Zamboanga del Norte.

Sabaya was killed while four of his close-in securities were captured. However, one of the four captives died from heart stroke hours later.

Carolina said the 25 who have been processed by the provincial court will be detained in Bicutan, Taguig where about 75 other Abu Sayyaf suspects are also awaiting trial. Among the 75 Abu Sayyaf detained in Bicutan are Abu Sayyaf leaders Nadzmie Sabdulla alias Commander Global and Abu Sayyaf chieftain Khadafi Janjalani's brother Hector Janjalani.

"They (ASG) went to the court process, kaya katarantaduhan itong isinasatsat ng International Solidarity Mission (ISM) nawe are not protecting the rights of the Abu Sayyaf. That is why, the victims of the Abu Sayyaf are complaining to us," Carolina said. — Roel Pareño
