Combined police and military law enforcers on Tuesday arrested a suspected sub-leader of the extremist group Abu Sayyaf in Isabela City, Basilan Province.

 

According to report from the authorities, Abdula Alad alias "Salip Abdulla Magdal", "Anwar Muda", "Salip Abdullah" and "Abduwa Salip" was collard in Barangay Malamawi at about 10:30 a.m.

 

Citing a standing warrant of arrest for kidnapping and serious illegal detention, the police source said that Abdula Alad is a known follower of the late ASG "Kumander Global" and Robot based in Patikul, Sulu Province.

 

The case of arrested Abu Sayyaf leader was docketed under Criminal Case number 387-3. He is one of the listed personalities in the Department of National Defense-Department of Interior and Local Government (DND-DILG) joint order 11-2009 monetary reward.

 

Authorities tagged Abdula Alad as one of the suspects involved in the 2001 kidnapping of the American couple Gracia and Martin Burnham in the area of Basilan Island.

 

The arrested Abu Sayyaf sub-leader leader was brought to this city and is now under the custody of the authorities for proper investigation and debriefing.

 

Elements of the Task Force Sanglahi-Alpha, Mindanao Area Police Intelligence Office (MAPIO), Police Special Action Force, Philippine Center on Transnational Crime (PCTC), Directorate for Integrated Police Operations-Western Mindanao (DIPO-WM), Naval Intelligence and Security Group-Western Mindanao (NISG-WM), Anti-kidnapping Group (AKG) and Police Regional Office 9, Intelligence Division (PRO9-ID) can be credited for the arrest of Abdula Alad.

 

US and Philippine authorities blamed Abu Sayyaf group for the worst bomb attacks, kidnappings and for beheadings in the south.
